A few weeks back, I watched an animated series called Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte or Ameku MD: Doctor Detective in English.
I like it when mystery and medicine are combined in one series. Let me tell you about it.
The title of the anime is derived from the main character's name, Ameku Takao. She's the head of Tenikai General Hospital's Department of Investigative Pathology. This is a small department within the hospital that handles complex cases that other departments are unable to resolve.
Ameku is an eccentric genius who is obsessed with mysterious cases. She often finds herself tackling cases that caught her fancy, giving her colleagues and even the police a headache. Despite that, they can't stop her because no case is impossible for her to solve. Her brilliant mind is much needed not only for treating patients, but also for solving cases that even the detectives find difficult.
She's not alone in solving these cases, though. She has a resident doctor, Takanashi Yuu, whom she calls Kotori. Despite her brilliance, surviving by herself is impossible... and Kotori is there to aid her.
They work together to solve cases and create diagnoses.
The trailer for the animated series is shown above. As you can see, some cases were considered to have occurred due to a curse. However, the main character unlocked this mystery and showed a more scientific or medical explanation.
It was so amusing to watch. I might be biased since I'm interested in both the supernatural and the medical fields.
There were also crimes like a guy with an amputated leg and blue blood, as well as a locked room case. There's also something related to Japanese history. That addition was a plus for me.
The anime is episodic, by the way. However, one story is sometimes spread across two or more episodes. This variety makes the animated series even more interesting.
Among them, the episode featuring the cancer patient, Kenta, made me cry buckets. He's such an adorable little boy, and the other patients in the pediatric ward were quite intriguing.
It was nice to see such an episode mixed in.
Actually, this anime reminded me of a Japanese drama and movie I watched around a decade ago. It's called Galileo, and it was originally from a novel by Higashino Keigo. It was about a genius professor and physicist named Yukawa Manabu, also known as, Galileo-sensei.
The difference is that Galileo-sensei helped the detective solve crimes by utilizing physics. It was also fun since I like science. However, the medical approach in this anime, Ameku MD, was more relatable.
It was especially fun for me because I also tried to find clues while watching and trying to make my own diagnosis. hahah Although it's been years, I'm glad some of the stuff I studied in university stayed in my brain. hahaha
All in all, it was a great watch. I love eccentric characters like Ameku Takao! The other characters were also quite interesting, each episode was intriguing and entertaining, and the art style and animation style were to my liking.
It only has 12 episodes, though. I wanted it to be longer! But, oh well... XD
I want more anime like this... a mix of mystery, crime, supernatural elements, and medical themes. So, if these things are also to your liking, then this series is for you. :)
I'll end my post here. Thanks for reading, and see you around! (^^,)/
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who enjoyed trying to solve the cases along with the characters! It actually made me miss studying. 😂
Great!!!
I got the hypervitaminosis A, fungal pneumonia, and epileptic seizure right. XDD I was thinking about white phosphorus, too, especially when I saw the matches... it reminded me of Enola Holmes 2. haha It was fun! :D
Your review was so vivid, I felt like I was watching the anime myself. I really enjoyed it.
I hope you give it a shot. :) It's a short one, but it was fun and intriguing to watch. :D
Of course I will. Best wishes to you.❣️❣️

I thought it was a story of normal doctor, guess I was wrong. I really don't like simple stories without great plot but I think this anime is good enough to watch.
I like the way you have described everything smoothly nice review.
She's everything but normal. hahaha Though in some episodes, you could see her human side. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for dropping by! :)
I loved how they mixed the*mystery with medicine, and Ameku Takao is such a peculiar and great character. Is that, who does not love an eccentric detective who resolves impossible cases? And yes, the fact that it gets in the cases for pure taste, is the best! Sometimes I was funny to see the police and their colleagues suffering a little for her, but in the end I always saved them. The relationship with Kotori (Takanashi Yuu) also seemed very nice. They are a perfect team. And yes, it is true that some cases seemed supernatural, but I was fascinated how they gave him a medical or scientific explanation. That there are crimes such as the guy with the amputated leg and blue blood, or that of the closed room, and that they also put some Japanese history, uff, they beat me!
I hope they get something similar soon, because that combination of mystery, crime, supernatural touches and medicine, is perfect!
My thoughts exactly... :)
