Yowamushi Pedal tells the story of Sakamichi Onoda, a cheerful freshman high school student who loves anime and is a manga enthusiast. He wanted to join the anime club at school and was excited to make friends with like-minded individuals who shared his love for anime. Unfortunately, the anime club has been disbanded.

One day, while he was riding his mamachari (a city bicycle) to Akihabara, he encountered Naruko, a skilled cyclist from Naniwa. He saw potential in Onoda's pedaling when a certain situation occurred in Akihabara.

Another student, a champion cyclist named Imaizumi, saw Onoda climbing the steep road to school effortlessly on his mamachari. He was also very impressed with his climbing ability.

Many things happened that led to these two convincing Onoda to join the cycling team. And yes, Sakamichi Onoda became the newest and one of the youngest members of the Sohoku High Bicycle Racing Team.

I find this sport very interesting because I've witnessed numerous cycling competitions here in our city firsthand. Even at my young age, I had already watched this kind of competition because our house was near the road where it was one of their routes.

I enjoyed it a lot, even though I didn't know the rules of the competition until I watched the anime series Yowamushi Pedal. Yes, all sports have specific rules and categories to follow.

For this cycling competition, they will compete for three days. On all days, there are specific checkpoints for sprinters, climbers, and the overall goal. However, completing the first day is essential, and depending on your time, you'll gain an advantage on the second day.

On the second day, those who finished first on the previous day would get a head start, so those who finished last would need to start much later, depending on their time.

And as for the final day, the whole team should combine all their strength to send their ace on the goal first.

As I've mentioned, one of the categories or checkpoints in this cycling competition is for climbers. This is for the best climbers who can first reach the highest peak of the designated mountain section. In this category, Sakamichi Onoda excels.

There were many scary yet exciting scenes in this series. I remember when Onoda had to pass the pack to get back to his teammates. There was also this crazy scene where some of the main characters were sucked in the pack and they had to get away from it.

In this series, you see that sports are not only focused on individual physical endurance, but they are also very mentally strategic. There are many characters to enjoy within this series; however, I dislike some of them, such as Midousoji, who is annoying but also a great competitor. If you're going to watch this, you'll understand why I was annoyed with him. Heheh

Overall, this anime series is really good and enjoyable to watch. It's also inspirational and has valuable lessons. It teaches us the importance of friendship, teamwork, and a support system, especially in crucial and challenging situations.

The scene that always pops up in my mind is when Sakamichi Onada sang his favorite song, “Love Hime”, which is his source of motivation, and it helps a lot for his team. They even sang with him, especially one of the seniors from his team, Tadokoro.

For me, this sports anime is a must-watch. You will enjoy the sports competition, love the strong character development, and appreciate the story itself.
