If you've heard of Aba, Enyimba city and Ngwa Road wasn't mentioned, that story is incomplete. Yeah, there's a missing piece there. Lol.
See eh, Ngwa Road is not just a road. It’s a destination. Why? This is because it hosts one of the most sought-after markets in Aba. It's where you get anything thrift wears called "okirika (OK) or bend down select." From footwear, bags to clothes of all kinds — tops, pants, jeans, underwears, name it. You'll also find locally made wears called "Aba made", customized outfits, designer clothes, and more.

Welcome to Ngwá Road Market.😂
Ngwa Road market is not the biggest market by size, but by importance, it carries weight. If you’re looking for something to wear and you haven’t checked Ngwa Road, you haven’t really started, I tell you. 😂
Every day, Ngwa Road comes alive with hustle and bustle. People come from within and outside Aba to buy, to sell, to trade. There, every shop, every space is a display zone.

On Friday, I had an appointment to keep at Ohanku Road, which is off Ngwá Road. Getting to the bus stop - East Street by Ngwa Road, I decided to exercise my legs and walk down, since it's a walkable distance. While doing so, I was able to capture the buzz:
Keke tricycles weaving through, picking up and dropping off passengers along the way. Truck pushers, with their overloaded barrows, forcing their way through in the crowded road.
Hawkers moving from one end of the market to the other, wares balanced on their heads, on barrows calling out to customers in high pitched voices.

On both sides of the road, piles of okirika wears are heaped on nylons spread on the ground, others displayed on hangers. Vendors are calling out to passersby to check out their wares; “Aunty come check this one, na grade.” “My brother, first grade material." "Small small money, bend down, select." Some would even spice it up by ringing a bell. 😂

Each of the piles of clothes have an assemblage of people checking and picking out what they want. Hands dive deep down the piles to pick out clothes.

The window shoppers aren't left out, they stop, take a peep and move to the next one. Lol. Everyone is in motion. Nothing stands still for long.
And then trendy customized wears displayed on mannequins.

Lest I forget, the local treat - fried yams, plantain and potatoes plus fish, would always greet your sight.

More treats on the go

And the coolants - yogurt and ice - cream.
