WEDNESDAY WALK - Giggles, Kittens & Parks!

(edited)

I think the best parts of my day now are the walks. This is a post I was meant to share on Wednesday but I did not have the time to sort through the pictures because of pressing matters. The most important thing is moving forward, and that is what you are about to witness in this post.

I had an appointment that day, it was a Wednesday. After I was done, I was to go to the bank to sort out issues with my Bank Verification Number (BVN). I had been following this issue for months to the point I almost gave up. However, the pressing need for a domiciliary account led me to press on as a client of mine had expressed his desire to pay in a different currency.

After I left the appointment, I thought about walking through that area as I wasn’t familiar with it. It was a cloudy day but I love clouds and I like them grey. The colder the weather, the better for me. I hate heat and heat is what we mostly experience here in Nigeria. So, the times when the sun takes a vacation is always rare and treasured.

I noticed that the road was linked to another one. This was when I realised that I had been on this road before, I just hadn’t recognised it because it had been tarred. I guess the reason for this road development is the constant construction going on here. This part of Kaduna has been a major source of attraction for the past two years. New buildings and businesses coming up, coupled with organisations and tourists. This has made this part of town quite expensive.

When I got to the junction, I boarded a bike towards Kakuri, where the bank branch was located. I passed by Shagari, the home to my favourite shawarma spot, Stingo’s. I come here as often as I can. One thing I haven’t seen displayed in a while are these Ghanabags. They are quite expensive now too, but they are one of the most common and strongest bags meant to hold clothes here. For those who can not afford boxes, these are a go to.

The trip led me towards and away from Kadwell Schools. I couldn’t help but remember helping one of my clients to proofread a proposal he sent to me that was to be submitted to this school. My job was to find and mark discrepancies especially with grammar, figures and names. He is quite a detailed man though so there wasn’t much I discovered except for some repetition.

And away from that, I came across a childhood wonder. Beambles! Well, that was formerly called Mr. Biggs and it was every child’s dream then to go there, including mine. I rarely had ice cream and I always thought theirs was the best. Now though, it is Beambles. What I don’t know is if they are still the same.

Queen Amina College is what I call the School of Horrors. I am yet to hear anything good coming out from this school. The news is always from one horror to the other. From cults to rape, and it is an all girls boarding school. I do not know how true most of those events I have heard about are, but what remains is I have yet to hear anything good.

After I was done with the whole mumbo jumbo with the bank, I boarded a bus to head back home. On the way I caught sight of some overgrown nursery beds. I wondered if they just let them grow out there or shift them when they start to mature without buyers.

And then I saw the nightmare! Cowbell! Did I ever tell the story of how I nearly died from drinking that? I think something in the milk doesn’t agree with me, but I take the chocolate mix just fine. Mom told me how she nearly lost me at six months old when dad made the mistake of feeding me cowbell milk. Then the same thing repeated when I was nine or so. Since then, I avoided cowbell products out of fear.

This part made my heart beat a little duller cause I haven’t travelled in quite a while. This is the park I use when travelling to close Northern states like Abuja and Jos.

Finally got home to this. One of Helen’s friends had given birth to this wee thing. @tengolotodo named it Giggles and I agreed. Just today I discovered it is a she. Saw her hopping around today.

And we have Emerald. I named him that because of his eyes. He wasn’t shy, this one. Ran to me like I was his owner and meowed until I stooped to stroke his ear. He is still a kitten and unfortunately, I can’t keep him.

For my last picture, here is a view of the clouds from the street. The weather was perfect enough to wear a hoodie, and I would not have it any other way. My cousin and I went for a walk later in the evening but that is a post for another day. See you soon!

Thanks for the virtual tour.. This is the first time I’m hearing of a reaction to cowbell milk though. I prefer peak and I don’t use any other.
So I guess you’re sticking to one milk.
