The Rise of Vaccine Hesitancy in Modern Times

Vaccines have, through the years, been an important part of human survival, as they have gone on to help us contain various deadly and widespread diseases from causing more havoc to the human race, so without a doubt vaccines are not only great but also a saving grace that has kept on sustaining the human race from going into extinction via the affliction of all the diseases we've been plagued with through the years. However, despite how exceptional vaccines are, not everyone buys into the idea, and that has led to numerous conspiracy theories surrounding them, and below I'll be talking about a few such theories I've heard.

Through the years I've taken a couple of vaccines to protect myself from some sickness or disease that is common in one community. I remember back in the day they used to talk of how polio was a deadly disease that led people to their early grave or rendered them crippled, but since the advent of the polio vaccine, the situation has turned around for good, because we hardly hear of such happenings again due to how families not only vaccinate themselves but their young ones as well, helping in keeping everyone safe, heal, and healthy.

Even though I've taken some vaccines, just like some people, there are some vaccines I'm skeptical about taking, and the reasons for that aren't far-fetched, which are basically because of the various conspiracy theories surrounding those vaccines. Take for instance COVID-19, which was once said to be an intentional plague introduced into our atmosphere by some top world leaders in order to cap down the growing population they've been complaining about prior to when COVID came to light.

And when you observe the majority of the news channels, what we mostly hear is how most of those who took the COVID vaccine were mostly the same set of people who ended up contracting the virus, and some even ended up dying after taking the vaccine. Seeing how that plays out in the lives of those who took the vaccine further cements my belief in the conspiracy theories of depopulation strategy that surround COVID-19, and that's why I refuse to take the vaccine to this day.

Another vaccine with a track record of conspiracy theories I heard was one that surrounds HepB vaccines. Back in the days when I still worked as a housekeeper at a resort, our employer set up an HMO for us, and to get on board, we needed to undergo some tests. It was after that test that one of us was discovered to be HepB+, and we were encouraged to take the HepB vaccine to prevent us from contracting the same disease, and during the process of taking that vaccine was when I heard the conspiracy theory surrounding this vaccine.

It happens that the nurses who were supposed to administer the vaccine to us kept on advising the ladies amongst us not to take the vaccine because it's widely believed that it often leads to an inability to conceive pregnancy. I was surprised when I heard that, although those words were confidential, as they don't want the doctors to learn about their advice, but they said even though it's not medically proven that the vaccine was what is causing the majority of those women not to conceive, it's better to be on the safer side than to take it and fall victim as well.

And that's how most of those ladies ended up not taking the vaccine; only those who are already married and have children took it, because they at least have kids already. This conspiracy theory around the HepB vaccine is quite common here, as I've heard it on multiple occasions from different people, and I can't help but advise anyone I know to abstain from it as well, even though it's said to not be medically proven.

Overall, I won't say I'm against vaccines because I know their usefulness because I've taken some through the years, but then there are some who are skeptical about them due to the conspiracy theories surrounding them.

I understand what you’re saying. Vaccines have helped people stay safe from bad sicknesses like polio. But some vaccines, like the COVID one, make people afraid because of the stories they hear. Some heard that it lead to death and some heard that if they use it they won't be able to give birth which scared people to use it.

Overall vaccines are great, we should use it for our own good, but ask questions when needed.

I think the text is very honest in showing how important vaccines are, but also how conspiracy theories influence people's opinions.

Conspiracy theories about COVID-19 vaccine were really wild. The fact that high profile dudes like Novak Djokovic missed two Grand Slams and several other ATP Tournaments just because he wouldn't take the vaccine made it a lot more confusing.
