December is one of the most anticipated months because of the festive seasons in it, and it's always exciting because it's filled with so many activities, family traditions, and much more, to mention but a few that spice up the event. In my family, we've got such regular family traditions that we partake in every December, and today I'll tell you all about them.
I've loved Christmas since childhood because it's just one of the most fun and enjoyable periods of the year, and it's the time I get to see most of my relatives and family members. That's because of the December tradition we've got in our family, and that's what makes the festive season exceptional.
Our December tradition in our family cuts across many things, of which I'll state below:
Cleaning and decorating the house and its environs is one of the first traditions we usually indulge in during the month of December. It doesn't mean we don't clean the house and its environs prior to December, but since we might be having loads of visitors coming in and out, it's best to tidy up everywhere and make sure the surroundings are clean and safe to thread upon.
The next thing in our December tradition is a visit to the market to purchase food items and gifts for one another. Although purchasing food items is mostly done by Mom, as we've got no girl child, that means one of us has to follow her to help with the lifting of those items. Sometimes it's me and sometimes it's my other siblings, but it's also great to see different food items being brought in, like rice, chicken, and the like, which makes you feel proud and certain that the festive season is going to be ditty.
Also for the gifting, regardless of how little it's, my dad from childhood instills the act of giving into us and encourages us to give to people in the festive and non-festive seasons, so during the December month, most of us pay a visit to the market to buy a gift for every member of the family. It's not about how expensive the gift is, but the mindset behind the act.
One other core part of our December tradition is traveling down to Ogun State, where our grandparents reside, and getting to meet up with all of our other extended family members, who also came from far and near, to bond and celebrate the festive season together as one big family. Although this tradition hasn't held for the past two years, I guess the death of our grandparents, who usually encourage this, makes everyone not commit again. Although it was held constant for five years after their passing, the last two years were different. I don't really know if we'll do that this year, but I hope so.
Last but not least, the December tradition is the eating of different luxury foods and delicacies that we won't have eaten freely in other months; it's just exciting, and it's an avenue to proudly brag to our friends during childhood about what we eat, are about to eat, got as a gift for the festive season, and several others, to mention but a few.
That's all about our December tradition in my family; it's always sweet and enjoyable. Although I'm far away from home presently, I'm sure they're already making plans and doing some of the above-listed acts, and by the time I travel down home, I'll also join them, making this one of the best Decembers ever.

Thanks for your time. I hope you enjoyed the read. Have a wonderful day ahead.
I'm also of the type to not enter the new year with dirty items and want to clean the whole house. Gifting is a show of love. Reunion with aged parents is a beautiful act, it definitely lifts their spirit
Yes that's a good act to have a clean environment, gift and the likes.
Wow I like the tradition of your family...cleaning is a very vital part and should not be taken for granted.
It's nice you still have your grandparents, I wish mine was still around though.
