When a Private Decision Becomes a Public Risk

(edited)

Topics related to health choices can cause sentiment and provoke deep thought. To be completely honest, I believe people should have the right to their health choices, body and medical decisions. Also, parents should have the right to the choice/decision as regards their child's health and well-being, but there should be limits and restrictions to this right given to other individuals in situations concerning their health.

When people refuse to take vaccinations and other preventive measures to avoid contagious and deadly sicknesses that can affect their lives and the lives of others in the public dangerously, then they should be isolated from those who are well vaccinated and prevent the spread of a disease. Because their decisions become a threat to society.

It's also not fair to judge people who refuse vaccines and other medical preventive measures, especially when their decision is coming from a place of a terrible experience.

Just last year, my sisters and I took a vaccine, two different vaccines, on the same day at the hospital and out of curiosity, I decided to check about one of the vaccines (HPV) on Tiktok and saw some negative reviews, especially on the consequences of it on teenage girls and I kept on checking on my younger sisters incessantly, after watching the video of how same vaccine changed the life of a teenager's life drastically. I couldn't hide my fears, even after being assured by a nurse at the hospital that nothing was going to happen to any of us.

If something had gone wrong or happened to me or any of my sisters due to that vaccine, I would have also created a negative narrative about vaccines and stopped the people around me from taking vaccines.

Most decisions are fueled by experience and pain. That's why people with different opinions should be respected and given an opportunity to do what works for them, but they should be isolated if they become a threat to other people and that should be non-negotiable.

Apart from religious beliefs and opinions, there are other reasons that make different people avoid vaccines. I have heard a lot of horrible stories about how parents loss kids due to vaccines and no one with such experiences will take prevention measures like vaccines seriously or even trust vaccines. Spending time to educate them on the importance of vaccines and preventive measures will only make them scared and bring bad memories.

Instead of being forceful towards them, their opinions should be respected.

It's also an infringement of their right to force everyone to indulge in preventive activities like vaccines and medication, because we all have our different opinions and experiences with these different vaccines, immunization and drugs.

Also, some religions don't believe in preventive medication and everyone has their rights to their own religious beliefs. These religions and beliefs also deserve some respect. Forcing them is an infringement to their rights. Instead of trying to educating them better could help, instead of being forceful.

Also, for people with bad experiences, preventive medications like vaccines have lead to the loss of a love one. They have the right to feel that way and shouldn't be forced into taking medication forcefully. Forcing them is an infringement to their human rights.

Instead, they should be quarantined and kept in isolation to avoid wide spread of the disease amongst the public through them.
