I first learnt about the importance of insurance in school as a teenager, didn't understand it better because it's not compulsory in my country, until I grew up and I learnt from podcasts, movies , exposure , experiences and some articles about insurance and its importance to an individual.
Currently , I don't have any form of insurance policy protecting me, but I hope to get one in the future, because life is unpredictable and an insurance could be a life saver to me in the future, especially an health insurance, considering how medical bills can be really expensive in my country, that's to protect myself and everyone around me.

I have grown to realize that insurance is a preparation for unforseen experiences , we are in a world were the countless disasters happen daily, it could be fire, theft and many others, but with an insurance there's a hope to have a life back after terrible life experiences and considering how unpredictable life gets, it's also necessary to have a hope after a disasters and insurance gives one that hope or something to hold unto when life happens and that's what insurance gives or provides for a person or those around them.
The cost of insurance might feel like an unnecessary burden, especially when one keeps paying the cost and hasn't had an experience that demands an insurance policy, but life is full of surprises, risk, and unexpected events, so having an insurance serves as a protection against future damage and I encourage an insurance policy for all, if you can own a property, business or whatsoever, then you should have an insurance, backing you up.
In a life that's full of risk and surprises an insurance provides safety and protection and having a life insurance is important .
I encourage and intend having an insurance in the future even when things are going well and smoothly .
Paying for insurance to stay covered and secured isn't a money pit and won't take everything away from you, but rather grant one support when they need it the most, it's a way of protecting and securing yourself against future risk and damages.

Insurance gives financial backbone or support when it's needed, insurance doesn't stop danger or harm from happening to anyone but give them a reasonable financial opportunity when they loss a property, business or funds, I don't believe that having a shield over your future will cripple you financially, but rather gives a protection against future loss, this life is full of unforseen circumstances and things can go south anytime.
I'm from a country where the knowledge of insurance isn't known by many , I feel there is a poor awareness or adverts about insurance, or maybe it's something that have been made exclusive for the rich and influential, but after learning more about insurance I believe it's an opportunity that's is open to the rich and the middle class, people experience the worse daily and having an insurance will prevent them from starting with nothing, but empower them with something to begin with. Insurance isn't a money pit that will take everything they own and it's not going to cripple anyone financial, it's just a protection and a cover when life hits .
Yeah, same as me too
I learnt about insurance in school cos in Nigeria, its actually not something people usually invest in.
I didn't fancy insurance also, but I grew to understand that it protects and secures you life and property.
So many things happen unexpectedly and in most cases we do not have control over some of this incidents. Insurance gives us that reassurance and support that when things go bad we are not alone. Alot of people are not just aware of the importance of this until they experience it.
Life is indeed unpredictable and insurance is a good means of protecting oneself from getting screwed specifically with the hike in price of medical bills just as you stated.
