The fact still remains that getting a degree is still worth every effort , I know the situation of things, especially among degree holders or graduates is really discouraging and pathetic in most cases, but I still encourage people to put in the best effort in education.
Having a degree shapes your mindset in many ways, and regardless of the rate of unemployed people, there are still people who made it in life with their degrees.
Most times, the issue isn't about the degree, but the degree holders, most people go around complaining about lack of job, but can't defend what they studied, and this set of people shouldn't complain about lack of job opportunities.
There was a time a lady came for an interview in my place of work, according to her CV, she has a degree in Mathematics and Statistics, she was still a fresh graduate, who just finished her NYSC with no experience, but her experience wasn't a major criteria.
After a brief conversation with the principal, she came to wait at the reception, my admin instructed me to give her an old examination script from JSS 1 and she should answer the questions, before they consider giving her the job, I printed the paper and handed it over to here with a rough note to solve equations and went back to what I was doing.
While typing , I noticed the discomfort and then she walked out and never returned.
I kept the paper back and told my admin she walked out and funny enough I have seen more people like this in my office.
Now this lady will go out discouraging other graduate, but this is someone who couldn't defend herself to get a job.
The fact is that you have to put in much effort, to be able to defend your degree, there are people who are just there to get the certificate, maybe because they have an inheritance or hope of an effortless job, but then we can't take away the fact that if you want to sustain a job with your degree, then you need to put in enough effort.
This efforts gives you confidence and morale to defend yourself at any time.
Without putting much efforts in obtaining a degree in the medical field, engineering sectors, and many more, the world would definitely not be developed and we will still suffer from old believes and problems.
The effort is worth it, and if you are privileged to obtain a degree, then you should put in your best effort to make it work and not listen to other people's opinions.
But my major concern when it has to do with putting so much effort in education is doing it like your whole life depends on it , why do people think education is the only route or pathway to success and tend neglect other aspects of life.
Education doesn't even guarantee much accomplishment in our current day and time, especially in my country.
While chasing education it's also important to acquire skills of your interest, lucrative skills and embrace entrepreneurship.
I'm so big entrepreneurship, because I would like to hold and build what is mine , especially while I'm still young.
I apply what I learnt in school daily and if there's anything I would love to be added to the education system, it's definitely the promotion entrepreneurship, people graduate from school expecting to embrace jobs under firm and companies that can sack and discard you at anytime, but what is yours cannot be taken.
Encourage upcoming graduate, that there's more to life than just education and rejections most times could be for the best.
Thanks for reading ♥️
Bribery and corruption had creped into education that's why most graduate aren't respected. Imagine a whole mathematics graduate that couldn't solve Jss 1 question, that's a shame
Bribery and corruption in the academic sector has caused more harm than good
The lady you mentioned in your post belongs to a category of people known as educated illiterate. People with numerous degrees but without the knowledge to back up their certificates.
Then what is the essence of spending on the degrees, they are alot of things to do with money ooh
It is true that you have to defend your degree for a job, but there is also another field, such as experience, at least where you are from, which is a limitation. You also have to know how to get it, but these are things that no one explains to us.
Yea, I get your point.
That's why here, students usually undergo internships programs and graduate trainee to gain experience and build CV for some years.
