FIRST AID, THE FIRST AND IMMEDIATE TREATMENT GIVEN TO AN INJURED PERSON.

(edited)

I can vividly remember back in primary school, when I was taught first aid as a topic in Health Science and we were taught to define first aid as , FIRST AID AS TH FIRST AND IMMEDIATE TREATMENT GIVEN TO AN INJURED PERSON.
Didn't make sense to me, until I grew up.
Then we saw a first aid box and we were taught how to perform some treatment on patient before they get full medical attention to preserve and save their lives.
Then I would always find first aid in my uncle's car, when ever he visits and he would tell me it's very important to own a first aid box.

I know some basic first aid treatment and I have also watched some performed in movies, I have never been close to a person bleeding, but then I know it's important to not allow them bleed so much, make sure your hand is clean and hold the affected area firmly with a clean clothes or wrap , and that's how to control excessive bleeding.
I learnt this in movies and if I'm in a situation where I need to help a bleeding patient , this is what I would do .

I have had two experiences where I learnt and saw first aid treatment being practiced on a victim before they were rushed to the hospital and I was one of the victims, but it happened in different occasions.

The first was in a night class back in school, a girl ran into the class crying and screaming, she was beaten by a snake and luckily we had a medical students in the class, the first precaution he took was to lay her down and made her to stop panicking, used a cloth to tie above the biten area tight, according to the doctor he said it was to prevent the poison from going into the heart or circulating round the body, then immediately he used a knife to tear the spot she was beaten and began to press out the poison.
The place was crowdy and noisy, so I was unable to see the substance coming out, but I heard the poison came out .
Immediately, he was done with this, the girl was rushed to the school clinic for proper treatment and attention.

Also, when I was beaten by a scorpion in my lodge, the public health student that was present also tied above the biten area , he didn't cut or press, according to him , he said it was improper, but he tied above the biten spot so tight , I can still remember, how inconveniencing it was until we got to the clinic for proper treatment from medical professionals.

First aid is very necessary and could save peoples life and it's necessary for everyone to have an idea on how to undergo first aid treatments to victims,
because we really can't tell what could happen and when we need to step up.

I can't perform a CPR, but I would really love to learn how to perform one.
I can control bleeding with the help of movies I have watched and some ideas I have gotten from books.
If someone needs medical help and attention close to me, especially when it has to do with snake bite or scorpion bite, with the experiences I have gotten, I would help the little way I can.

It's great to know you've got some knowledge about first aid, especially when that girl was helped when she was beaten by a snake and when you were also helped when bitten by a scorpion.
It's important we all learn about first aid and have knowledge because it can save lives.
