While the idea of designer babies might sound really fascinating and surprising, it might be an advanced technology we might have to deal with in the future. With the advancement of genetic engineering, parents might begin to choose the particular trait, appearance, intelligence level and personality of their children. Inasmuch as this is huge progress in science, I don't support such advancement. I do not believe parents or science should have the right to influence the genetic modification of their child to their personal choice or preference. Parents who do these are just projecting their insecurities on the child and aren't contented and grateful for the child. I believe children are blessing, and we should be grateful and appreciate them, instead of changing them to what pleases them. Every child has an inherent value to give to the world, their worth shouldn't be based on their parents desirable traits, but they should be loved and accepted.
Children comes to this world with different personalities, strength, weaknesses, and appearance and that's what makes the world a beautiful place, we get to meet people who compliment us. Allow children to grow, be kids and be loved for their flaws. If we start allowing/ permitting parents to modify a child, that would create a world with perfect children. Children we don't need to nurture. Parenting is about nurturing. People will see kids as products meant to be designed for perfection and not little individuals that need to be nurtured to near perfection. Parenting isn't about creating kids that suit our personal ideas.
I believe we should allow children to be children and not seek perfection. Perfection is subjective too. What you consider perfect today in our society, could be our dated tomorrow, especially when it has to do with appearance. Genetic modification will only make people seek perfection, because parents will begin to chase an unrealistic standard like perfect physical features, great intelligence and many more. And this can create an unbalance for those who are created naturally, because society will only discriminate and choose those who meet this standard and this genetic modification will not be affordable for the poor and this will just widen the gap between the rich and the poor in our society. Creating a world where opportunities will be open for only those who have genetic enhancement.
Humanity shouldn't alter a child's gene for reasons that aren't valid. It doesn't seem right to me, the natural process of birth and humanity should be left uncontrolled. Science should focus on medicine and healthcare. Altering a child's genes isn't right because it's a scientific advancement.
This will only create a society that will leave no room for individuality and acceptance. People will disrespect diversity and discriminate against those who are natural. Contentment with the baby we brought to this world is enough, we should love kids for who they are and nurture them to be better adults.
Nevertheless, if this is done for reasons such as preventing illness that are genetics, that's where a gene modification is necessary. But for reasons pleases personal preference/ choices such as physical appearance, intelligence, traits, and many others, that's not necessary. There's a difference between saving a child from a genetic disease and designing a child to please your physical standards or wishes.
Parents should love and accept their kids for who they are, they shouldn't pour their insecurities on kids by trying to change their physical appearance . Every child deserves love and acceptance , we should embrace their uniqueness and nurture them to be better adults.
The creator didn't create the world and living things to be perfect, He has his reasons, any action to make that happen will only destroy the world.
