Who Hears The Cry When Healers Are On Strike?

Hello Everyone, welcome to another edition of the Hive learners prompt, and happy weekend to you all, we thank God it's Friday, not like I have anything to do for the weekend , I am just glad to wake up today and be alive despite all,it just shows that God is really good to us in ways we can't begin to comprehend. So back to the topic....

There was a time before my cousin died of kidney failure, when we had to take her to the general hospital in another state, Abia state precisely, That experience is one that I can never forget , you know she was already going through so much physically, emotionally, and even mentally, When we brought her in, they attended to her at first, I won’t lie, but you see later on, as time went on, it was like she was just left there, lying on the hospital bed with no real proper attention.

At first I just thought maybe the hospital was just too full or the nurses were busy, But later we heard that the doctors in charge of that part of the hospital like the aspect of the kidney treatment were on strike, the thing just made me really angry and also sad at the same time, like how do you leave patients, you know people who are fighting for their lives in the hands of just a few nurses? Nurses that were clearly really overwhelmed already.

See , I honestly think that was part of the reason my cousin got tired of life itself, You know when someone is sick and they are still fighting, hoping that maybe the care they receive will help them survive, you get that kind of thing ? but once the hope starts to fade , once you start feeling like nobody really even cares if you live or die , the fight begins to go down.

You see she was barely saying much, Most times, she just looked out the window and stayed quiet, We kept talking to her on phone , so she doesn't lose hope,we kept trying to cheer her up, but we could see it she was losing that spark at a point ,And the worst part? There was really nothing we could do for her, We weren’t rich enough to take her to those private kind of hospitals that specialise in that aspect, the government hospital was our only option.

See , Now I don’t know if when doctors go on strike, it actually helps the government to pay attention to them, because let us just be honest with ourselves , we are talking about government here, and we know how governments behave, how they do Thier things, especially in this Nigeria, youu can cry, protest, shout, write open letters they might still pretend not to hear you , that’s how it has always been in this our country.

See sometimes I just ask myself, is it really worth it at all,?like Is the strike really helping at all? Or is it just making more people suffer and die quietly like that?

But at the same time , I understand the doctors too o, Some of them have not been paid for many months, they do not have the tools to work with, and they are overworked , I do get that, So that's why they go on strike because that is their only way to shout.

But while the shouting is happening, people are losing their lives, you know, My cousin was one of them, so sad ,And I just can't stop thinking if things were different, if the doctors were not on strike that day, maybe… just maybe, she would have held on a little longer to her life . Well I don't know , God knows best.

See at the end of the day , the people who who suffer the most are the ones who do not have power or money, it is well the common man,the one who just wants to be well okay.

So when doctors go on strike, I really ask who is even listening?

Interesting, I enjoyed reading your post.

The truth is, it is only when doctors go on strike the government listen to them. I have observed that actually

Seriously?
Well sha I don't know

I once saw a video on TikTok where the doctor was giving so much medical advice, like sleeping on time, eating well, and doing exercise, and so on, but when we checked the daily routine of the doctor, none of this was done because they are always in the hospital trying to make the lives of people easy and good. These are the sacrifices they have to make and not many people are appreciative of them.

It's not like doctors can't go on strike but if they do, what would happen to their patients?

I know that makes a lot of sacrifices and they are expected to be paid well.
Bur when that post is left . The sick is left to suffer

This is why our doctors need to be taken care of

I'm sorry for the loss of your cousin.

It is sad whenever such a thing happens, when people are left without any hope.
The country (Nigeria) that we found ourselves in has made things worse.
The only language that the Nigerian government understands is industrial action (STRIKE).

I could remember vividly in 2023, while I was preparing for my National Youth Service, I went to the State Hospital at my place for my medical fitness, and the Doctor who was supposed to sign the result was very sick, and yet he performed a cesarean section (CS) for a pregnant woman.

The government should prioritize on the welfarism of the workers, and provide all the necessary equipments to make their work more easier and effective.

Hmmmm I see that they do sacrifice a lot, like I really do see.
So we blame government when they go on strike .
Well it's well

My sister na the patient go suffer o, because the so-called people in power don’t even take treatment in any hospitals in this country so they don’t care who is sick or dying.

And am so sorry about your cousin may her soul continue to rest on
