The Struggles Of Finding The Right Home.

When it comes to rent culture in my area, omo it is not beans at all, Finding a good house to rent is like a full-time hustle on its own, everybody wants to live in a place that gives peace of mind, but the truth is if you don’t look well, you might just enter one chance with landlords or agents.

For someone like me who is currently looking for a place to stay with my kids, the first thing I am always watching out for is the environment, see I cannot just pack into any random place because, at the end of the day, it is not just about me, it is also about my kids, I want somewhere close to the road so I won’t be trekking long distances before I can get to the main junction or market, easy access is very important , just imagine carrying bags of foodstuff and having to walk inside one deep corner? That is stress I don’t want at all.

Another thing is school. If there’s no good school close by, it’s already a no for me. I don’t want a situation where my kids have to go far or spend so much on transport just to learn, Then there’s security , a top priority for me, I can’t live in a place where you will be hearing gunshots at night or where every small thing, thieves are breaking into houses, Nah, I need somewhere that when I lock my door at night, I can sleep well without thinking twice you get?

And then electricity, honestly, light is one of the biggest things I look out for, Because without light, almost everything is messed up, Think about it : no light to iron clothes, charge your phone, even preserve food in the fridge, It will frustrating, I have seen people who spend half of their income on buying fuel just because they live in areas with no steady light, That is not the life I want at all.

Now, when it comes to measures I take before renting, I don’t joke with asking questions, If I see a house I like, the first thing I will do is start asking people living around how the area is, does it flood when it rains? Is the landlord troublesome? How is the electricity situation? What about water? Because omo, some places you will enter, they will tell you “don’t worry, water is available” but when you pack in, you will realize you have to trek far just to fetch water , that kind of stress is not for me.

Another thing is the house agent, i don’t just follow any agent because some of them are only out to chop your money, I try to look for trusted ones or even follow recommendations from friends who have rented houses before, that way, at least I know the person won’t just carry me to one nonsense place and be demanding “inspection fee” up and down.

If I were to flip it and talk from the homeowner’s side, I think most landlords would prefer tenants who are responsible, neat, and can pay their rent on time. Nobody wants a tenant that will always be causing wahala in the compound or delaying rent until everybody is tired of asking. Respectful tenants who mind their business but also keep peace in the compound are the best type.

At the end of the day, rent culture in my area is not so different from many places in Nigeria,I mean you just have to shine your eyes and be patient, it is not about rushing to pay for the first house you see because you might regret it later, for me, I am taking my time to make sure I get somewhere that is safe, comfortable, and convenient for me and my kids.

Because truly, house hunting is stressful, but once you find the right place, there is this joy and peace of mind that comes with it, and that is exactly what I am looking forward to.

Finding a good home or house to rent is really a tussle. I would say the beautiful house are already taken because of the ugly experiences who has had over the years.
I rented an apartment where the landlord resides too. It was a living hell because there was always dues to pay. From cleaning, to pumping water and the mad electricity bills. It was an insane experience.
One just has to pray not to meet a terrible landlord or house owner.

I swear I have had my own fair share of a bad landlord. God will help us in this country

It's not getting funny these days. The truth is that if these landlords and especially the agents are not checkmated, a lot more would be victims of the bad treatment they met out daily.

Security is not an option, our life must be protected so it is one of the most important factor to be considered when renting an apartment .

Looking for a house can be really complex, so many agents out there to take your money.
I understand how it feels.

Security is very necessary, it's the first aspect to be considered, especially for the sake of your kids.

Finding a good house to buy or rent is quite difficult. After looking at many houses, you like one house and if any problem arises in it later, then you will have to face a lot of trouble.
