Hello Guys,
For this topic, me i feel like reality shows like BBN(Big Brother Naija) should be banned because, like this, I personally do not see the essence of the show, I have never sat one day to say let me watch, even when I am not at home and i am at a friend's place and they are watching, i just find something else to use my time to do, even if it is to sleep, omo i will prefer to do that than sit and watch BBN. See, I am not trying to sound moral or religious or anything, NO. I am not even a TV person, so I can say that this personality already plays a role in how i do see things. For me it is either i watch k-drama or Hollywood movies, at least those ones have storylines you can follow.

With reality shows like BBN, everything is just somehow, it feels so unnecessary, It's like this, people are auditioned and put in a house, they have cameras everywhere, and just like normal human behaviour, their everyday interaction is now turned into a performance, like alot of them start doing things that on a norms, they wouldn't do in real life, but because they know that there are cameras around them and they have viewers, they start doing stuff. So I ask this question, at this point can it still be called a reality show? Because me i do not get it, or it is all about the money and the attention that they will get that they are after.
Now, another thing that bothers me is this. What exactly is this show promoting? A lot of emphasis is placed on beauty, relationships, body, and luxury lifestyle that's not even realistic to an average nigerian, you see how som young people watch this show, and they start believing that life is all about soft life alone, big money, parties, etc. This show doesn't show the struggle behind sucess, they are not showing consistency, discipline, or quiet hard work, see it is always about who is trending and who's not, who is dating who, and who wore this and that.
Okay lets say we adults can filter what we watch, and the things we take seriously, just like how I do, but then how about kids and teenagers? You know they don't have the same level of understanding like adults do have, they watch this show and start measuring their lives with these things they see , see if you ask me, I will tell you that it is very dangerous, like, really.
I feel that this BBN show just encourages a culture where fame is more valued than substance, and it's not that you have to be skilled or intelligent to be part of the show, no, you just need to have all it takes to be loud, dramatic, etc. For me that sends a really bad message, not everyone should live that kind of life, and that's okay, but these reality shows have made it seem like that's the ultimate goal for life.
I dont connect with things like that, i prefer watching movies or series where effort has been put into acting, even if it is fictional, i still like it, cause it is intentional, some reallity show just feels like noise to me. I am not saying people shouldbt be entertained o, cause i know alot of people watch it, everyone has a right to sit , relax and enjoy what they like, but I think yes, there should be limits, especially when these contents are pushed to the public for viewing, they should consider the influence it has on children, teenagers, and the underage ones.
If banning sounds too extreme, then they should put out stricter regulations , age restrictions, and also better content control or less glorification of things that don't have value.
At the end of the day, this is just my own opinion, I honestly don't see any point to shows like this, because life is already stressful and complicated, I'd rather spend my time watching something that educates me and inspires me.

Definitely, BBNaija should totally be banned in Nigeria. It's not adding value to people's lives, especially the young ones.
At all.
It is not adding any value to our lives in any way.
Yeah. That of BBN is somehow good oh because a lot of talents are been discovered from that scene.
Take for example Bam Bam, the first time I saw her was on that show and today she is all over the world.
Thanks alot
I also support that shows like the big brother naija be banned as it does not impact lives positively..
For me it should be banned totally too, infact I don't really know what they are still waiting for. If it's unnecessary things they will push energy but this one they seems not to. E interested
I don't really like it. But this is Nigeria, they do what benefits them
The problem with reality TV is that it's super-cheap to make - no expensive actors, period sets props or costumes to make. There's always some poor sap who is so desperate to get out of the hole that is their life (or just desperate for their 5 minutes of fame) that they're happy to look like an idiot in front of millions of people.
But they aren't even selling reality, they are selling a dream of what some people would like reality to be like.
