AI is not the Enemy, People Are.

No the technology should not suffer for how people use it... That is my position and I am going to explain exactly why I feel that way because this is a conversation that deserves more than just emotion and outrage driving it...

Let me start with a simple comparison. A knife is a tool. You can use it to cook a meal, to cut fruit, to prepare food that feeds your family. You can also use it to hurt someone. The knife does not change depending on what you decide to do with it. The knife is just a knife. What changes is the person holding it and the intention behind the hand that picked it up. Nobody is out here calling for knives to be banned because some people have used them as weapons. We understand instinctively that the tool is not the problem. The person is the problem.

AI is the same conversation and I do not understand why we keep refusing to see it that way.

Artificial intelligence is a tool. One of the most powerful tools human beings have ever built and like every powerful tool in history it can be used to do extraordinary good or extraordinary harm depending entirely on who is using it and why. It is helping doctors detect diseases earlier. It is helping students learn in ways that suit them individually. It is helping businesses run more efficiently, helping researchers process information that would take humans decades to get through, helping people with disabilities access the world in ways they never could before. The technology itself is not evil. It is not sitting somewhere plotting to generate explicit images of real people. It does not have intentions. It does not have ethics or the lack of them. It is a tool waiting to be directed by human hands.

And some of those human hands are making disgusting choices with it. Generating explicit images of real people without consent. Creating fake videos that destroy reputations and cause real psychological harm to real people who never agreed to be used that way. That is happening and it is genuinely terrible and the people doing it deserve every consequence that comes for them.

But the answer is not to punish the technology. The answer is to punish the people.

Stricter regulations should be on the humans using AI to violate other humans. Stricter laws around non consensual intimate imagery whether it is AI generated or not. Clearer consequences for the people who create it, share it, and profit from it. Platforms that host this content should be held accountable for what they allow to exist on their systems. The conversation about accountability should be pointed directly at the people making these choices not at the technology that is simply doing what it was directed to do.

Because if we go down the road of restricting AI every time a human being misuses it we are going to spend the next fifty years strangling one of the most transformative technologies our generation has access to because we refuse to hold the actual problem accountable. The actual problem is not artificial intelligence. The actual problem is people with no ethics, no discipline, and no regard for other human beings deciding to use a powerful tool to cause harm.

That has always been the problem with every powerful thing ever created. Fire did not burn down villages on its own. Guns do not pull their own triggers. The internet did not invent cyberbullying by itself.

People do these things. People should face these things.

Leave the technology out of it and fix the humans... That is where the real work is.
