Celebrating Us: A Hopeful Look at Our 2nd Anniversary

To be candid, I am not the kind of person who is keen about anniversaries but if I were to think about it, there are several anniversaries worth looking up to but I would be sharing

In about 8 months, I will be celebrating my 2nd year anniversary with my girlfriend. Although it is still far away, it is something worth looking forward to. It is actually my first relationship that has lasted this long, and I look forward to growing into something worthwhile.

I will say my relationship is still very young and has a lot yet to experience, but this past year has had a significant milestone in our relationship. We have grown to know each other more, committing to each other's happiness and personal growth. It has not been easy thinking about someone else's challenges as yours but it has been comforting to have someone else worry about your challenges like it's theirs. 😂

Talking about challenges, I can also remember periods of misunderstanding between each other, which, when thought about, can be so funny but not so funny at those periods. These misunderstandings made us realise how best we can share our views and thoughts with each other during disagreements or misunderstandings.

Over the past one year and four months, we have shared some memories together. We have hung out, celebrated each other's birthdays. In fact, I have met her parents before, and they know who I am to their daughter. Although her dad has known me for some time, he only knew about our relationship this past month during her convocation from school and didn't look very surprised (I guess he would have suspected).

Why this anniversary is important to me...

On our first anniversary, we were not able to celebrate it together because we were both in different states, I had to travel because of something important, so we did not spend the time together, and right now, I hope this second anniversary will give us a chance to spend time with each other.

This second anniversary would be worth celebrating because most relationships out there did not make it that long, and yet we would have come through a lot of odds against being together. it would be a celebration of the love we have built and a testament to our ability to love and care for each other.

Plans for celebrating the day...

The day is still far away, but the truth is that there is a high possibility for us not to be together again, like on our first anniversary, because at that period, Pearl would have her NYSC in any state in Nigeria, while I would have been done with the university and cannot predict where exactly I would be. But the good side of it is that, since I would be done with school, and not having anything tie me down, I can always travel to visit her in whatever state she is in and then have a proper hangout to celebrate the moment.

My Hopes Ahead...

I know the relationship is still very young, so I hope that our love grows stronger, we get to help each other in our personal development, and we have a future with each other. I hope nothing happens to the relationship because I cannot imagine myself starting again from the talking stage with someone else 😂. The whole process of building trust and getting to know each other from the very beginning is not a smooth one. Lastly, I hope we build a future where we will both look at each other and be proud to say we chose right.
