My take on whistle blowing

Greetings!

The rate at which people committed criminal activities in our society and in this current dispensation is so alarming and always on the increase.

Now, people don't see anything bad in the way they do evil which ranges from stealing, killing, bribery just to mention but a few when compared to the time past when the consciences of people are pricking them whenever they set out to do evil.

In our own time, people now see criminal activities as normal and vice versa which shouldn't have been at all.

However, the authorities some time ago in their way to help curb this corrupt practices put up a measure in my country which they called whistleblowing and the person that blows this whistle is known or called whistleblowers.

Having talked about corruption and the measures put in place by the government of my country, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt which is all about, “whistle blowing.”

From my own view of what whistle blowing means, it's a way of reporting the criminality or corrupt practices of some people to the appropriate authorities that have been put in place to punish such offenders.

However, I would like to respond to the question which is, “would I be ready to be a whistleblower?” When my response to the question is in two folds.

My response is a YES and NO answer and this is because, if I'm in a society where I'm sure of being protected by those in authority, I would gladly accept the offer of being a whistleblower as this might be my own way of contributing to a dream country of mine where corruption or criminality would be reduced to the barest minimum as I am so sure there's no way corruption and criminality would be wiped out totally from the face of our community.

However, if I would not be protected by those in authority, then there's no way I would accept the offer as it may cost me my life and that of my people.

I have heard about the case of a person who reported a corrupt person and paid dearly for his whistleblowing of a thing just because his activity and reports were leaked by those who are to protect him just because they were related to the person in question. The whistleblower almost lost his life if not by the grace of God.

Such is the case of the society we have found ourselves, a society that we send you on an errand and still send assassins after you to take your life.

So, if I would not be protected like this man I just mentioned, then there would be no need for me to accept the offer and if such an offer is presented to me, then a NO answer would be my answer.

However, if I'm sure of being protected, then, I would gladly accept the offer and make my society a safer and saner one to live in.

Whistleblowing is a brave act. Many people are afraid of becoming a whistleblower because they know how dangerous it can be, especially when you report to people who are supposed to take actions, but instead are after your life because they are linked to the perpetrators.

Hahaha 😂😂 I just laughed when I hear you say Yes and No. The problem is that you won't get all the protection that you need when you try to be a good citizen especially in Nigeria.

The most dangerous places is the Philippines, right after countries with war. Here you can read the historical background: [Philippine corruption] Ferdinand Marcos and the Philippines The Political Economy of Authoritarianism 4/163
