Moving on, the first person that came to my mind immediately i saw this topic was @burlarj, and that's because i know he won't miss out on sharing his experience on this topic. I just couldn't stop smiling while reading the brief of the topic. I remember reading a couple of his articles in the past regarding the unending troubles and challenges he faced in his last apartment, how that apartment almost saw the end of him 😅. There was even a time when the plaster of paris which was meant to be a source of beautification in the house fell on him while he was asleep, thank goodness he wasn't wounded back then. It was at this point i came to realize how crazy and money hungry nigeria house agents are, and to what extent they will go to give a bad apartment to anyone who’s desperately in need of a roof over their head...

I learnt a lot from his experience and thanks to those lessons i came to understand better what i really need to look out for when house hunting, not all houses with beautiful interior and exterior are safe to occupy. Some intense beautification are just camouflages. They look beautiful and safe on the outside and inside but beneath those beautifications lay some big faults, which can later be a big threat to the occupant of such apartment...

The rent culture in my area...

First and foremost, i won't advice anyone to come rent an apartment in my area, and that's because most of the house agents in my area are greedy and deceptive. Greed and deception is a quality most of them possess, everything about them has to do with an upfront payment, including house inspection. As a client looking for a good apartment to rent, you can't get them to leave their house for inspection with you without paying some money upfront. Thanks to this unsanctioned norms, some house agent will first take you to a couple of bad houses to exhaust the inspection fee and afterwards tell you they can't show you more houses because the inspection fee you paid has only covered up to this extent, then you have to pay another sum of money before they show you more houses. If this is not greed and deception then what should it be called?...

The ratio of honest house agents to the bad ones is quite low in my area, which is why you have to look a bit rogued to deal with the dishonest ones, that way they won't be able to take advantage of you.

As a person looking to move into a new home, there are many things to consider, an apartment shouldn't only be a place where one can sleep and cook, it should be a safe haven for the occupants and not constant source of fear of what might happen any moment. Here are a few things to always lookout for when taking up a new apartment;

• Location.

• Electricity Debts.

• Security.

• Toilet and bathroom.

• Ventilation.

• Wall Cracks.

I had to arrange these things in their order of cruciality for a couple of reasons. If you don't take these criteria serious when house hunting then i assure you there will never be a day of peace for you once you move into that apartment, and the countdown to the utmost deal breaker would begin...

When house hunting it is important to always find an apartment in well sited location, the word location comprises of many things, all of which include roads and building structure. As a prospective house occupant you need to settle down in a place where transportation will be effortless and easy, not in a place where you won't be able to travel comfortably and conveniently. Imagine having a car and because the road to your house is so bad, you have to always pack your car at a distance while you trek down to your home. This isn't how it's meant to be and that is why you need to take this into consideration before taking up an apartment...

Hmmmmn, electricity debts and security are also things to look out for when house hunting. Run far away from any house that has a pending debts, if you don't J.P, you will be a victim of different problems, all of which include paying a debt you know nothing of. Security is important, don't stay in an area where theft and burglary is high, run far away to secure your life and small properties...

Toilet, bathroom, ventilation, wall cracks, these three factors shouldn't be taken for granted at all. If you manage to clear the first three and there is an issue with either of these last three, RUN!!!. How do you intend to survive in an apartment with no ventilation, good restroom and lastly wall cracks, who does that. How do you intend to sleep in peace, which is why you have to RUN again when you come across a house that has any of these faults or all...

In conclusion, don't compromise on your safety. It is very important to look out for these six factors before calling a place your humble abode, restlessness and hundred percent guard won't guarantee you a long life, and that is why you need to put these factors out there first before taking up an apartment to ensure peace of mind and peaceful living...
