FOX AND READING ARE 5 & 15…

(edited)

First thing first, i hate reading. Like i hate it so much that i just can’t help but pick up a book only when there is either a test or an examination coming up. If you have met me somewhere or even at-least heard it from me at any point in time that “i love reading” or “reading is something I can’t do without”, that’s a big lie. I don’t like reading at all, and only a couple of times have I enjoyed reading, and that’s if what I’m reading is interesting enough to keep me glued to it, or else i am done after a few pages…

I can’t help but imagine the number of different questions that must be going through y’all heads right now. Questions like; if you hate reading this much, how did you manage to gain admission into the tertiary institution, how did you pass all your examinations in junior high and senior high, how did you pass your UTME examination, how did you pass your WAEC, and how did you manage to be amongst the toppers in your department in the first semester?. Chill guys, i have just one answer to all these questions. I was able to achieve all these feats with “READING”. Oh yeah, the same reading i hate so much helped me achieve all these feats…

I hate reading, but compared to reading i hate failure more. I prefer to embrace reading for weeks to avoid failing an examination or test. And when it comes to my preparation for an exam or test, I read like there’s a death sentence over my head. I put my all in all to make sure i never have to reseat that examination again. Now you see clearly how I’ve been doing it all these years…

I didn’t come from a family where parents would go all out just to make their kids a lover of book. On the contrary, i come from a family where the only thing my parents need to do to get me to read and study for any upcoming examination is THREAT or PROMISE. This is an all-time trick my parents use. To get me to give my best to an examination, all they had to do was to threaten me or promise me something i’ve always wanted. If they can do this, then achieving success is a small deal…

Reading has never been my thing since childhood. I have always been a fast learner. I prefer attending classes and learning directly from my teachers explanation than just attending classes, writing notes down and having to read them later to prepare for an examination. This has never been me. I can boldly say it here that most of the answers I wrote down in my examination from primary school to senior school has had more of my self-understood explanations than what was taught to me in class by my teachers. Back then, that was the best way to earn extra marks. So I don’t write what is in my notebook word for word in the exam. I mix it with my own words and construct it well to give a good definition…

This is one of the habits I don’t think i will ever be able to let go of. As long as i know what the question is all about, i will definitely be able to share one or two things about it in my own understanding of the question…

HOW OFTEN DO I READ PHYSICAL BOOKS ?

Honestly, I don’t read physical books at all. I don’t think i have ever spend an hour reading any physical book. The only time you will see me reading any physical book is during examination period or test period. Funny enough i mostly open my books when i have an assignment to write. Mind you, whatever i learn and understand from class is stuck in my head permanently…

The last time i picked up a physical book to read was over a month ago. That was when i was battling with my second semester examination. I had to read like a mad man to make lots of As and ABs, if not that, then i will be seeing some lecturers again at the end of my 200 level…

In summary, reading, especially physical reading has never been my thing. I only read when examination is around the corner. I know it’s bad but then i am hoping everything would change soon. If i show you my results from primary school till date, you will be surprised to see what i have there, and that’s because i read and study well for all my tests and examinations…

In conclusion, the next time i will be picking up a book to read should be around December or first week of January next year. I will be resuming school in a couple of months from now, so i need to refresh my brain after so many months of inactivity. I am talking about school related inactiveness. Other than that, I think November should be the closest month. I have to read and study my logbook again to be able to defend the three months i spent training in an my supposed industry 😂🤫…

NB; all images are mine…

THANKS FOR READING…

the only thing my parents need to do to get me to read and study for any upcoming examination is THREAT or PROMISE.

I can relate to this, though my parents were more the threats than promise. I didn't grow up as a child that enjoyed reading books, I usually do it because it can't be escaped. Though I am building up the habit of reading lately.
