The Town of Saki — Free Flow of Movement

I live in a beautiful town called Saki, the northern part of Oyo State as it is where I am serving my fatherland. Why I call it a beautiful place even though it's kind of a village setting is because the town is a nice place that is so calm and peaceful. Sometimes, I keep thinking whether I should hide my head here after my service has ended, but I don't think I can cope even though I have done so for the past 7 months because of the issue of electricity.

Saki is also known as the food basket of Oyo State. There is a lot of food at cheaper prices and that I could say is why I have enjoyed my life since I relocated here.

With its setting style, one would know it is an ancient town but with some development here and there as the town seems to be bubbling with youths around the vicinity. This town is so calm that since I got here, I have never seen any traffic/hold-up happen. The road is divided into two with a pavement used to demarcate it, while buses, cars, and tricycles are coming into the town, the other side of the road is leading them out with no one disturbing each other.

There is a particular area called Ajegunle that seems to be busy in its little way because of how the road is divided side by side like a T-junction, so the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were assigned there to monitor the movement of each bus, car, bike etc and with their presence there, the road, though very busy, is always smooth as everyone moves without hitting the other.

The only time there is traffic is when the traffic light is on and motorists and tricycles would have to wait for their turn before moving and this only lasts some seconds to a minute.

I used to take a bike every day while going to work and returning home and the fare is a cheap one even with how a bit far the journey looks. The fare isn't expensive that even when there was a hike in the price of fuel some time ago, it still didn't affect the prices of transportation, at least people could still afford the cost, unlike big cities like Lagos and Port Harcourt where they add insane prices with the excuse that price of fuel has gone up.

I think there is a consideration for people as they believe the salary they earn isn't enough for them not to talk of using it for transport fare. Teaching, farming, buying and selling are their means of survival here.

While there is traffic in Ibadan which is the capital of Oyo State, Saki is very quiet and with free movement, not to forget, the good roads too. I haven't heard of any accidents happening and that is because everywhere is always free from morning till night and sometimes, it makes me wonder if people don't like going out in their cars or bikes, although bikes are common here since it's the mode of transportation to convey us to our destination while we have small cars and buses to take those going outside of the town like travelling for some hours.

I don't think there is a major problem here except for inflation in food just as it is common everywhere, even though the price of fuel keeps increasing, it still doesn't affect transportation as the fare isn't something one would scream out loud on.

But the issue of gas is a concern here to a lot of people as many homes have resorted to using charcoal with a small coal pot to make their meals. The last time I filled my 6kg which was two weeks ago, it was #1200 per litre. The one I filled before that was around #1300 then. This is why many families have an alternative when they cannot afford the price of gas.

Things can only get better and resolved if the government decides to bring inflation down while making the price of stuff affordable for everyone, especially for homes where they can't afford to feed themselves satisfactorily.
