Counting My Blessings, One by One

Gratitude is one way to enjoy a peaceful life. Do you know why? A grateful soul, one who is intentional about it would know how much God has done in their life. And yes, I have a lot to be grateful for, and it’s not until a gun is pointed at me that I would be wise enough to list all I am grateful for.

I love to keep tabs on the doings in my life. I mean, how God has always come through for me. Here are the things I am grateful for, particularly this year:

My life & health. These two are important because where there is no life, there’s nothing like existing, not even typing this now. And where there is no good health, how do I do the other things I need to do?

Good health, to some people, may be underrated, but not to me, because I know how much more important it is than anything else in life.

Goodness & mercy. The Bible says, “Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” This has always been my daily declaration before leaving the house for work, and I have seen God grant me these beautiful gifts.

Every day, I enjoy help from above through everyday people to work. This could have cost me a lot daily, considering where I live and where I work, but God has been faithful to send help without me begging for it.

Job. Oh my! This is something I can never take for granted. Why? It was as if God made it the right time for me to get such a good job, one that has made things easier for me. Imagine enjoying free goodies at work. There are times I go to work with a 'light' bag and return with a 'heavy' one because there are always things to take back home.

Schools have been on holiday for two weeks now, but for me, there’s no holiday. I am taking Primary Six classes, and because the pupils need to be fully prepared for their common entrance, the Primary Six teachers had to sacrifice three weeks to enrol them in tutorials, hence, the extension classes.

But since I began, I have never regretted coming to work here. Every week, they prepare sumptuous meals for us, and at other times, we are tipped with a certain amount of money, excluding what we will be paid for the extra classes. Every day, when I get home, I kneel down to appreciate God for such a great opportunity.

Life has been easier for me because God has been taking care of me, and this is something I am always grateful for. There is this assurance that God is ever mindful of me in ways I couldn’t possibly describe or imagine.

Family members. The fact that I have the best siblings is another reason I am grateful. I have amazing siblings who have been supportive and encouraging. They are one of the best things that have happened to me, especially this year, and for this, I am grateful to God for their existence in my life.

Provision. Imagine not having enough in the kitchen, yet never lacking in these first few months of the year. I sat down one day and reflected on how the year began. I used to buy foodstuffs in bulk, but this year has been different. What has surprised me is how I have never lacked anything but have always had enough for myself and even to share with others.

This is something I never expected, but God had His way of coming through without me asking anyone for help. In fact, I never did this year in terms of getting food, but somehow, I never went to bed hungry.

There are more things I am grateful for, but I will stop here. Indeed, God takes care of those who love Him. If there’s something I have held onto this year, it is this: I may not have enough, but I always stand on the promise in Philippians 4:19. God has supplied all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
