Maintaining a balance on my wellbeing

Hello Everyone,

Health is wealth so people say, but it's funny how many people don't really pay attention to their mental Health. Yeah we can all agree that physical health is easier to notice, I guess that was what really make people neglect the importance of mental health.

In my country, most of the people pay little to no attention to their Physical health and worst still, they don't even really care about their mental health.

For me, as someone who has struggled with both mental and physical health, I have really learned that finding a balance between these (Mental and Physical health) is key to overall well-being. But what exactly does that mean?

Let me explain the two terms : Mental Health vs. Physical Health: What is the Difference?

Firstly Mental Health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. This part of our health affects how we think, feel, and behave.
For me I feel Mental health is like the lens through which we view the world.
When my mental health is great or on track, I feel more resilient, inner strength and energy is heightened, I feel more focused, and I am usually able to handle life's ups and downs.

Physical Health, on the other hand, is about our body's condition and how well it functions. Let's picture our physical health as the vehicle that carries us through life. When my physical health is thriving, I have more energy, better sleep, and fewer health worries.

For a long time, I prioritized my physical health over my mental well-being. I am more particularly about my physique and I hit the gym regularly, eat well, and get enough sleep. But I'd neglect my mental health, pushing aside stress, anxiety, and self-care. But The result was very unpleasant, sometimes I will feel burnt out, irritable, and stuck.

Then, I would face the other way, focusing solely on my mental health. I meditate, journal, and practice mindfulness while letting my physical health slide, and the results as expected is that I'd feel sick, sluggish, and unmotivated.
One thing I really hate much is stress, whenever I am very stressed out, I tend to just loose focus and just sit down unproductive.

The only solution to my problem was to find a balance, I started treating both aspects of my health with equal importance that I found a sense of balance. Here's what works for me:
For my Mental Health:
I started caring more for myself, I love some quiet times, here is where I heal, reserve my energy, meditate, read and one of the most enjoyable part is connecting with nature, I just sit under a tree, sing my favourite worship song, sometimes it's just me resting and starring into the beautiful work of nature.

Another vital thing I learnt to do is to set boundaries. It's gets very serious here, be disciplined and learn to say No, most of the time, I take some Nap during my outdoor connection with nature. For physical health, one thing I have really trained myself to do is constant exercises, Calisthenics precisely, I do push ups, sit ups, crunches and plank exercises. Also for my physical health, I eat healthy meals, sometimes I cook myself, sometime we might not follow the balance diet plan but I try as much as possible to eat good food.

The final one that I don't joke with is Good sleep. Having a sound sleep is better than any physical wellbeing practice. This is because whenever we sleep, our brain will rest and reset, after then the brain comes very active and alive.

I truly believe that By finding this balance, I've become more resilient, confident, and compassionate toward myself. I hope you can find your own balance and experience the benefits of a healthier, happier you.

Really our mental health is the most neglected and it doesn't even take much to keep sane. Like you said a good sleeping routine does wonders. Also paying attention to our body and giving it all that it needs. You have a pretty solid routine going on for your health care well done.
