Pressing of phones must be suspended for a while

In this present generation, being away from our smartphones in a few seconds is kind of hard because one will have one thing or the other to do on it. Gone are the days when the only means of having fun is playing with friends in our respective houses or hearing news is through radio and also from what our various parents heard at work. In the world like ours, smartphones have become our companions which we can't do without.

Most times I'm not surprised how kids nowadays react when you seize their tablets or call them out to help you do something while they are watching cartoons on their respective tabs. Some even end up crying and refuse to eat all because they don't want to be away from their gadgets, let alone an adult who has one or two things to do on their smartphones.

I believe every family has the lay down rule they follow on how they use their phones, the way you do in your family will be quite different from mine. So today I will answer this question base on the rules in my family.

The use of phones in the dinning room in my house had been banned all thanks to my Dad. Though the phone is usually with us on the dining table, but you dare not press it if Dad is there. The only thing you are allowed to do is to pick a call if anyone calls, and it mustn't be an extended call.

Although if Dad isn't around we do as we like, but once he is there, we all follow the rule. But if at all I want to eat and also do something important on my phone simultaneously, then I will have to avoid the dining and eat my food inside my bedroom.

To the extent that if we are having a family discussion, it's a sin to press the phone, my Dad will be furious at anyone who violates his rules. Dad believes the phone is a distraction and when everyone uses it during family time, our attention and mind will be divided and there won't be family interaction, so to avoid divided attention, we keep away our phones at such moments to listen to ourselves and contribute immensely to the gathering.

Well he is quite right, the time we all dedicate to our various gadgets is becoming too much, so I believe he is trying to teach us how to strike a balance with it. So most times when I travel home, I'm always careful how I sit around the house with my phone.

There is lots of importance in banning the use of phones during important family gatherings for the purpose of bonding and creating lasting memories. It is always fun to be in the midst of family members, so the phone will be a huge hindrance if you really want to experience the feeling.

For now, the work I'm doing isn't online related, so most times when I'm home with my family most especially with my mom and younger sister, I try everything possible to do away with my phone so as to enjoy their presence. Implementing this rule when I marry will be very easy for me because I've started practicing it now while being single.
