High Crime Rate and Our Struggle for Safety

The crime rate in my vicinity is something that calls for a concern and quite very disappointment, but this troubling consequence largely stems from the economic quagmire our country faces. While no ethical justification can excuse theft, it's clear that the difficult circumstances many individuals find themselves in drive some to resort to stealing. The allure of quick gains often overshadows the associated risks.

In this vicinity of mine, the situation is so dire that venturing out with even a hint of vulnerability becomes a risky endeavor, especially when rain begins to drizzle or fall. It's as if the heavens themselves conspire with the perpetrators; the moment you make the mistake of using your phone's flashlight, you might as well bid farewell to it and any other cherished belongings tucked away. Painfully, I became a witness to this reality, falling prey to such a crime that continues to plague my place of residence.

Earlier this year, as I engaged in a phone call with my device pressed to my ear, a sudden burst of speed echoed behind me. Instincts collided within me – one urging me to turn and see, the other compelling me to clear the way for the swift passerby. Opting for the latter, I stepped aside. Yet, fate had already determined my fate as the pursuer forcibly snatched my phone, disappearing into the nearest bush before I could react.

The aftermath left me left me devastated, being offline for days, and grappling with the inconvenience of being cut off from the virtual world I had been so connected to. Days of silence from my clients ensued as the clients' assumptions and thoughts echoed in my mind: "I have been duped." Grateful for the financial resources at hand, I undertook the process of retrieving my lines and swiftly went for a new device

Since that distressing incident, vigilance has become my constant companion. Prior to stepping out for extended outings, the routine now involves leaving my smartphone safely at home whilei use the small one I have as backup. This strategic move was so I could remain connected while reducing the risk of another unfortunate encounter.

However, another angle these criminals operate include: broad day robberies, some armed with weapons, the mid night hours, too, some intruders scour residential compounds under the cover of midnight's cloak, targeting items of value such as car batteries and generators.

With crime weighing heavily on our shoulders, elders convened to find a solution. The consensus emerged – the introduction of vigilantes While it didn't entirely eradicate the problem, couple with the high payment fee, we were grateful because this proactive step did provide a degree of respite. With the presence of vigilantes, the night air became less laden with fear, granting a measure of freedom for people to move about without constant dread of losing their possessions. Although incidents persist during daylight hours, their frequency has been significantly curbed.

The efforts we have implored to enhance safety has reduced the crime rate in my vicinity. This has thought me that action can make out safer spaces in even the most difficult circumstances.

You made a very important observation here. There was a time when all we had to do was make sure we don't stay out in odd hours. However, crime rate has gotten so high to the point that people get hacked to death in broad daylight. It's insane.

We all have to make effort towards being security conscious.

You are indeed right. The increase in crime rates, even in broad daylight, is alarming. Imploring security measures to ensure safety is very necessary if not things we go out of hand.

Gone are those days people leave their door ajar and wake peacefully the next time with no fear of bring attack.
