People Change, But Intention Is The Real Test Of Character.

This topic goes beyond answering with either yes or no. And I say that because we all are humans and have at one point or the other learned, unlearned and relearned. So, people get to a point in their life where they begin to see clearly and differently and they feel the past beliefs of theirs is actually not true. And that's what it means when we say, change is constant. Yea, people change, so someone you know 5-10years ago might be different today because they now have a different believe.

So, I feel the real question should be about the change, like, has the person truly/really changed? Or they are just adjusting due to the benefits of something. And like I said earlier, a lot of us, if not all as at one point or the other did or said something in the past that we see differently now and are not proud of at all. I'm not saying we should ignore the past completely, because that which was said or done back then in the past would have to some extent hurt or damage something or some people.

Let's take the case of Reno Omokri for example, this guy some years ago did a lot, he was very vocal about his stance against Asiwaju, he criticized him, dragged him, called him various names and stand tall with it all. Today, he's working with that same man he criticized, he's defending him in all and every area, he even went as far as debunking some of his tweets and rephrasing it in another way. He's currently working for him now, and own would ask why, why working for a government you once opposed with everything, definitely there are questions to ask, was he doing all that then to be noticed, was he doing it without proofs, has he been bought now, what's his intention?....and a whole lot of things. Most importantly, can such a person be trusted?

So, when we say a person changes and such, what we should as well look into is their intention. The intention really matters. Like I said earlier, we learn, unlearn and relearn and if someone has certainly done any of that then we should see signs and those signs speaks a lot about the person. If beyond those tweets and all, we see changes, we see consistency, we see accountability and you owning up to whatever it is, then we all can say and agree that you've changed for the better and you can now be vouched for, but when what we see you do is debunking it, running away from questions or pretending it didn't even happen, then that as well says a lot about you, about how you cannot and should not be trusted.

I remember a case of a man being interviewed some months ago too, they used all of his past tweets and all too, come see the way this man in government was making a mockery of himself and not us, he kept debunking it all...on a universal TV station. That shows that how a person reacts and responds to the past says a lot. Do they take responsibility? Any form of accountability? Do they pretend or run away from questions.... Let's see the case of the INEC chairman now too, he's debunking old tweets claiming he's not supporting this government, because ad the chairman you're supposed to be neutral. He said he is, and when old tweets surfaced online about how he so much supported this government, he said the account wasn't his and all of that, but after a lot of research that account still points at him...how can such a person be trusted to conduct a free and fair election. Someone who's supposed to be neutral but has a favorite.

So, what I can say in conclusion is that, it depends... If we can see very good changes and the person owning up to their mistakes and all of that, not for personal gain..then it's just fair to give them the grace to grow and be a better person. But if it shows clearly that it is for personal reasons, maybe for money, favour, positions and all, then we should know better than to trust them too. What is required is balance.
