If We Feed Them, Why Won’t We Treat Them?

Health happens to be one of the things I don't and will never joke with. And as someone who has experience with health issues and has as well have to pass through various pain, processes, surgeries, tests all and came out a survivor, I very well understand how important good health is. Because without good health, there's no way you will have energy or strength to do anything again. When your health stops functioning well, everything else in your life stops.

So, for me I wouldn't agree that all because someone had committed a crime then they should lose a privilege like that. Nah. I understand like the prompt said that some might have committed very terrible crimes, maybe they've killed, raped, assaulted and all, in short they've done things that warrant them to be locked up and punished, but while serving whatever punishment they are being given, it shouldn't include their health. Are we saying yo abandon them if they get injured, are we saying to leave them be if they ever get ill...

If the government can take responsibility of feeding offenders or inmates who are in prison, then why shouldn't they cater for their health too. You're feeding them in custody, but you cannot take care of them when they fall sick, then why bother feed them.

And I understand that the healthcare is been paid for with our tax payers money, but the prison clothes they wear and the food they get on a daily basis is still being paid for with the same tax payers money. So, good healthcare should be provided for them too. In as much as all of those continues and stands, then their welfare which health is a part of should stand too.

And I know some may have a different opinion. It is understandable though. Some would feel that they should be left to wriggle in pain too, some will feel that they must have hurt people to become prisoners so it's not bad if they get hurt too and experience things like that. To those with such a mindset, please just have a rethink.

Some are being taken out through death by hanging or death by firing squad, but so far those inmates are still there, then it means they are definitely serving a jail term and would be out someday. So, I believe the government have a responsibility of keeping such people hale and healthy. Even if the person is serving a life imprisonment, they should still care for his health, or should the person serve in pain and now die from illness too.

I also understand that the prison is meant to punish those who broke the law, but I also believe that it is not a place where we should deliberately and intentionally allow people to suffer because they are criminals. And most of the prisoners we are talking about will still come out one day to continue living their life. So when they're now finally out, should they come out of prison looking lifeless already, should they come out of custody with illness and all...

If we think of it as a prison, a place that holds those who broke the law, then it will easy for believe to see as a hell hole and it should be treated as such. But if we think of it as a rehabilitation center or correctional center, a place meant for correcting people in order to reinstate them back to the society, then we will be able to understand the need to cater for their welfare.

Prisoners also deserve good healthcare services just as we those out there. After all, they’re also human.
