Does The School You Attend Really Matter? My Answer As A Student And Teacher Is Yes.

I can't say, or I can't be so sure, but I believe we will all have our various opinions on this amazing topic. But for me, it is a big yes, the school we go to does matter.

Right from creche, to kindergarten, to nursery, pre nursery, primary, secondary and up to the tertiary level. It all matters. As a student that I once was and as a teacher that I am at the moment, I've seen and understood things better, and I can tell you for a fact that schools go beyond teaching just subjects, they shape values and attitudes, and even relationships because we meet various people all coming from different backgrounds.

Also, the school I'm teaching in is one that has no staff of their own, they depend mainly on we corpers, so imagine the kind of experience the students will be having, when they don't have a permanent teacher, you can t compare that school to one that has stable and permanent teachers.

But then, I will love to focus mainly on higher institutions, because that is where we get to make major decisions and focus on a certain career or course to go for....this is not to say that other levels in education are not important.

First off, I agree that two student can be in different schools and be taught the same thing, but the way it is being taught, the environment of learning, the facilities, equipments and all that is supposed to aid and facilitate learning can or will definitely be different.

If for instance a person is aiming at learning a technical course, one that he or she will have access to equipments, machines and the most practical part of things, you will agree with me that. A university and a polytechnic can help with such courses, but you will also agree with me that it will be best for such a person to opt for a polytechnic because polytechnics are known for their practicals, and not just focusing on theories. Opting for a university is not bad, I'm just saying which one focuses on handling such equipments, learning hand on skills, doing practicals and all of that, the other mean more towards research and theories.

The sad part of everything is just the bias that most people have towards other schools. We have people who look down on college of education students, some look down on those who attended nursing schools, some on those of us that attended a polytechnic. They believe the university is superior and that no other schools can impact knowledge like a university will. I actually don't agree with that and never will. Every institution serves its own purpose, some of us who went to a polytechnic did have scores and grades that would have made us gain admission into a university.

We just need to understand certain things. College of educations produce teachers which we won't stop needing, nursing schools as well produces nurses that we will always need, technical schools as well produces technicians that will always be needed and same goes to a university too.. . I'm just saying that every institution has and serves its own purpose.

So, depending on ones future career, the school you go to or choose to go to is important. As much as the school we go to matter, what we the students do as well matters, if we are indeed making the best use of the opportunity and what's made available for us. Because the most important thing is to be focused on learning and growing.
