As little as the word belief may sound, it carries more weight and power than it lets on. People have died and would not mind dying because of their beliefs. People would do anything for what they believe to be right. This is why it should be a crime to make people believe in a lie. If you have ever believed in something, you know how much you are ready to go for it. Now imagine all your life you believed that humans can fly because those who brought you up taught you to believe that. When you reach the outside world you see it is different and you begin to feel you are special. What would stop you from jumping down a sky scrapper because you believe it will bring out four flying potential… This is how belief works, it makes us see the possibility in even the impossible and if I am being honest, I have done a lot for things I believed in and I have also believed in a lie. I know how heart broken I was when I realized it was a lie.

For example the way pastors were painted for me growing up I honestly thought they were demi gods, the way they used their lives to preach about holiness you would condemn yourself mere looking at them. I followed one so much that I loved him as a father, but after sometime I began noticing strange behaviours, especially when I got close enough to see the flaws first hand. Although now I have understood that even pastors are humans, but then I saw them as spirits because they made me feel they were and I trusted them so openly. I remember how that man would tell me that we are spirits and thus can not do certain things. I tried my utmost to behave like a spirit whereas, I was only human and when I discovered the things he did, I became so heart broken that I began doubting everything I ever believed in. This made me less trusting of everything I see or hear. I was a child then, a teenager with the mentality of a child at least, still getting to know the world, and I fell for that.

I have this friend who always compares himself with his mates. It pisses me off whenever I hear him do that, and sometimes I have even reprimanded him for it because I believe that behind all that glitters, is something you wish you never knew. I have come to understand that people will only show you the flashy things about them, that is what they are proud of, that is what it easier to show, and that is why when I make friends, I do not just look at people who have the things that look flashy, I check their dark sides and ask if they can also handle my dark side. And this is why making others believe you are not who you claim to be should be considered a crime. You do not know who is believing you, it might look harmless, but you do not know who went to steal because they want to look like you who was given everything you owned. Living a fake life might do you good, but these are what causes unrealistic expectations and might be damaging homes you will never be aware of.
