It’s hard to stay focused in this age and time, but only those with the capacity to stay focused can really be happy in life. This is because a lot of people assume that money can buy happiness or is equal to happiness so they do everything to get the money. But then at the end of the day, life happens and they find out that they are unhappy and those who think will begin to wonder why they are unhappy even after getting the money they have been pursuing all the while. When people pursue something, they forget the cost of the pursuit and only fix their eyes on what they are pursuing. There is a cost of pursuit that people do not really talk about, and that cost has a way of changing the narrative. When the cost of pursuit becomes high, people tend to lose part of themselves even after getting what they are looking for. By the time they get the money, you will discover that they have lost something, maybe a spark, maybe a smile, it could even be compassion.

The hustle for money takes a lot, you have to stop being a softy, you might even need to do things that you never imagined. I remember how I had to start having guts I never had when I was not making money. I had to be more of myself, and by the time I had realized, I was standing up to almost everybody and anybody. This changed something in me, not in a bad way though, but it changed something in me regardless. The fact that this could happen to me, means it can happen to anybody. I have also had experiences that made me make bad decisions that backfired. These are experiences that change you, and make you more hardened, it makes you more cruel because life is like a game when it comes to making money, and that game can change everything. The game brings out both the best and worst in you, and by the end of the day you are too different a person from who you were when you started your pursuit.

This is the cruelty of life, there is nothing we can do about the order because money in itself is a very vital part of life, but I have also seen those who choose their own happiness and decide what makes them happy. I think this is one of the ways to manage this cycle of cruelty. I hear people say my happiness is my family. When they say this, what they mean is that no matter how much life changes them, they will never forget where their joy stems from and they will do everything to protect their source of joy, even in the process of pursuing money. They always remind themselves the reason they hustle day and night without rest, and try to be happy even in the midst of their unrest. It is something I learn to do, like calling my family when it gets tough, calling them when it gets better, calling them when I am confused and do not know what to do. It’s about finding peace and rest with those I love because they are the ones who will keep me focused in this pursuit.
