Technology keeps evolving every single day, we are still yet to fully assimilate the spread of electric cars, now we are hearing about the spread of self driving cars. 10 years ago, we could only imagine how thrilling it would be, and now that it has come to reality, most of us are looking like we have seen an alien. I love the idea of self driving cars if I am to be honest, but I would not want to get it for myself. The question I think we should be asking is who really needs a self driving car, because it’s definitely not me. I mean I did not learn how to drive at 17 only to get a self driving car for myself just because I can afford it. But then, there are those who this would help a lot not just because of who they are, but also because of the situations surrounding them.

For example, people with disabilities that restrict movement of their limbs or hands need self driving cars. They need it not just because they are disabled, but also because it will make them less of a burden. There are people who do not like people entering their space, these people for one reason or the other do not enjoy any form of association even though they need help, plus these types of people just happen to be mean to those around them for one reason or another. Sometimes it is not because they are wicked, sometimes it could just be that they have had bad experiences with people in the past and it has traumatized them in different ways and they can’t just help it. So yeah if you can give them a car without it making them feel disabled, you might be doing them a great favour without realizing.

But then again, the thing with technology is that it is never perfect, there are always flaws and sometimes these flaws can only be managed and not totally erased. But then again, the use of technology also matters a lot and that is why I would say if you are going to get a self driving car, make sure to always follow the rules of the car so that if it crashes it won’t be your fault. What a lot of people do not know is that it doesn’t matter whether a car is self driving, the manufacturer would never want to admit they made a bad product so if anything happen, they will investigate to make sure it is the fault of the end user and not theirs because no one wants to be responsible for paying for damages. The only thing I would advise is that no one should purchase a self driving car out of peer pressure because I believe it to be more boring than fun. I do not know why someone would want to sit down in a car doing nothing when they are not old, disabled or maybe have a phobia for driving or are too busy 24/7 that they would rather get a self driving car than employ a driver. In short, if you do not need an external driver, you do not need a self driving car.
