I do not travel a lot even though I would like to and that is because travelling requires money which I don’t have. I recently started following a lady whose dream is to travel the 54 nations of Africa. As at the time I followed her last blog, she had travelled to 22 nations and would be coming back to Nigeria before continuing the rest. Watching her travel on a bike made me realize it’s something I would love to try someday. I’m a very adventurous person, so these things easily intrigues me as it scares me so trying t will be on my to do list. The closest I’ve had to such an adventure was the time I was nearly kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen which was one hell of an adventure for me. I remember sharing that experience here.
My latest trip however was just a trip to me because the distance wasn’t really far, however the destination was what was memorable to be because I got to meet with my family even though it was just for two and a half days. It was a four hour trip from Rivers state to Delta state which was very quiet. It was also the first time visiting my hometown which I was kinda excited to do. Had always heard people talk about going to the village, an experience I haven't really had myself because my parents did not allow us (my siblings and I) visit the village for any reason while growing up. If you are wondering whether or not we know our relatives, the answer is we only knew two out of which were children of my dads immediate elder sister. For the rest of his 7 siblings, we never knew them before that day, talkless of their children.
During the trip I wondered what they would look like. My mum would often talk about how it was easy for me to know my uncles, aunts, and cousins because of how much we look alike. One time I even saw a guy that looks just like me and we both took a moment to take in the fact that we looked alike before going our separate ways and I came to the conclusion that he was probably a cousin I do not know of. Getting to my village though, I discovered my mum was right. I did not get to meet all my cousins, but the ones I met did have that resemblance. But the resemblance for me was more with my dads siblings, probably because I’m his carbon copy.
But then again I was disappointed because I didn’t get to meet the whole family. The trip was for the burial of my dad’s mother who I never really met before she died. She had 9 children for her husband who married her as a second wife. The first wife had seven children of which I only got to meet one along with 4 of my dad’s siblings. The only part of the trip I enjoyed was getting to know some of my cousins and the food which was just very lit, and then my family who I got to see after two years. Everything else was just a trip.

A journey is a journey, whether it is for four hours or a few days. The lady whose blog you have read has written it very well. In this blog, she has mentioned her hometown, which was visited for the first time. Visiting your hometown is like refreshing your old memories.
So you are saying If I see your kind of face somewhere, that person is related to you because you mentioned your uncles, aunts, and cousins. Everyone looks alike, right?
Perhaps 😂
As long as you left the four wall of the state you are currently living in, you actually travelled. Try going home more often than before
I also grew up not knowing most of my relatives, but as an adult now, I know them all because I took the initiative to travel down to my hometown and know my roots.
