FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE

The issue of morality is usually a very dicey one, if one is not careful, you might shoot yourself in the foot while trying to fight for what you think is right. Especially when it comes to art and culture. There are those who find certain types of paintings offensive, in fact there are paintings I would rather not have in my house, if I have children, there are paintings I would not want them to see because of the kind of message they send, especially to the innocent or untrained minds. The major reason people find them offensive is because of the messages they send, and a lot of these people can agree about one thing, these messages are not for everyone and these messages have a way of corrupting innocent minds. This messages can also be misinterpreted by untrained minds and thus these messages should be far away from such minds.

But does this mean that these paintings should be banned from the eyes of the general public? The answer is No, the fact that the majority of people (myself included) find such things offensive does not totally mean that it should be banned. Is it morally wrong, obviously yes. From the majority of those who do not like such paintings, it is morally wrong to display them in public. But is it illegal, the answer is No. Should it be illegal, the answer is No. If we decide not to be biased and look at things fairly, the fact that the majority like something does not make them right, and the fact that the majority hates something does not mean that everyone should hate it. Yeah it is bad, but banning it will be unfair to those who like or even adore such things. The funny thing is, such things are adored by those around us, they might not be loud about it, but it is what it is.

If it is because of the kind of message they send, then even the paintings that send good messages should be banned as well. This is because the same way we find certain things offensive, is the same way others find the things we like offensive. And everyone has the right to express what they feel, and also has the right to see what they like in public. If we are concerned with the innocent and untrained minds around us, then it is high time to start educating them so they are not awed by things like these. The fact still remains that this world was not created for the good or for the bad, the God that created good, also created bad and that is where perfection lay. There will be no light without darkness and no darkness without light. This is why good and bad, light and darkness coexist. The total removal of one does not mean the other prevailed, it just means something totally different has come to be. So if we can’t accept these little inconveniences in our society, then we should go build our own world where everything is perfect just as we like.

I also think education plays a bigger role than simply removing things we don't like. It's not always an easy topic but you explained your opinion well.
