Have you ever wondered why a lot of people travel overseas for their masters and PHD or other higher degrees? It’s because what they are learning there will be no different from what would be taught in their home countries, although it is so for some of them it is, but that is not the reason for a lot of people. Have you also noticed that a lot of these developed countries do not have as many students from their country as they do from other countries. This is because those really looking for higher learning are few than those looking for connections and looking to build long standing relationships. It’s not easy to build these kinds of relationships, you know, especially when you choose to remain in your country for a very long time. This is why people will prefer spending millions in their own currency and even international currencies just to be able to meet others that can elevate them to a much better standing in the society.

If there is one thing I have come to learn in life, it is that the kind of family you are born into, the kind of school you go to, and the kind of environment you live in affects the way you look at life and affect the way you approach things. The reason you can not compare a student of Harvard to a student from any local higher institution in your country is because of the name the school (Harvard) carries in the society. Let’s be real, you are looking for a chartered accountant and you meet two candidates, one from a Nigerian University with two masters and two PHD and you meet another from harvard with just two masters who would you choose. As the MD, you know the candidate from Harvard might have one or two connections that your company would need in the future and you will definitely put that into consideration.

This is why I would always say connections matter a lot, and if we make the right connections, we will be able to scale through easily in life. Those that come from nothing must make connections with those on top, because those on top would always choose themselves to make connections with. And you can hardly find those on top in ordinary places. This is why if you must survive, you must be ready to find ways to position yourself in places where you can make the right connections and scale to the next level. It matters a lot, you will hardly see a governor's son in a public school in the same country especially in places like Nigeria. You can only find them in developed places. This is unfair to the poor, but it is the brutality of life. It won’t matter how you choose to see it, I know a lot of people who complain bitterly about it, and I always tell them, it is not the fault of the students in higher places, their parents just wants the best they can afford the same way the poor parents wants the best they can afford. What matters here is what both can afford.
THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO HIVE LEARNER'S
PROMPT FOR WEEK 220 EPISODE 1

I totally agree with you. We got the same ideology in this topic.
Rich people understand that positioning gets you farther so they would not mind spending a fortune on making sure their kids sit in the same classroom as another child from a home of affluence.
I believe that environment matters a lot. We can learn the same thing anywhere but we can't get the same experience and opportunities everywhere
