A BLOODBATH

One of the saddest events that I have physically watched played out was the END SARS protest in Nigeria that turned into a bloodbath. That day history was made, but I fear very soon history would be repeated with the things going on concurrently. Nigeria is a country where the average man is always angry and it ain't just about inflation but even more about corruption and oppression. It is human nature to revolt when pushed to the wall which was what happened during the END SARS protest, and right now I fear there is a revolt coming up and that's because we feel we've been pushed so hard and had to endure every bit of the pain and suffering. This new revolt coming up will be to fight against the insecurity going on in the country. I don't know how long it will take, but if the government does not do anything about it now, something worse than END SARS will repeat.

In 2020, police brutality was the order of the day with the force known as SARS at the forefront. To them everyone dressed in a certain way was a criminal. Crying a laptop automatically means you are into cyber crime. Owning two phones meant you were into cyber crime. Having dreads meant you were into cyber crime, wearing earrings as a guy meant you're into cyber crime. A lot of young men died because they were not given an opportunity to be heard and were already tagged criminals. A lot of homes mourned the passing of promising young men that died in the hands of police brutality and when we had enough, a revolution began to end it. But then, things didn't go as planned as no one expected that the government would reply to her citizens with such violence by sending armed men to shoot at peaceful protesters carrying the Nigerian flag. I attended the protest, I felt and saw the pain people faced then and that's why I believe that it's only a matter of time before things go out of my hand.

Today we hear of killings happening in different states, kidnappings and terrorism happening in different parts of the country. For a very long time it started in the Northern parts of Nigeria, but now, it's coming gradually to other parts of the country which is why I fear that if the government do not take this issue seriously and ends it before it escalates, it will turn into a bloodbath when citizens decides to take matters into their own hands as we did with the SARS officers. Although, this will be different because the scenario is different than it was before. Now the people involved in the killings are terrorists and bandits, then the people involved were the government which was why the citizens were linear with their actions. This time, citizens might be forced to go for the kill at first sight which would be very bloody. I just hope the government finds a way to settle all these things quickly.

These days, I see more and more people going up against corrupt policemen in the road. The other day, people refused to pay the 1k toll imposed on them somewhere in Lagos, and that caused a traffic gridlock. People are getting fed up. And things are getting worse. Honestly, history will repeat itself because we might get to the point where protest would be needed. And as usual, the government will do everything to stop it. It's just sad. But the aftermath will determine if things will really change or not.

The aftermath is usually a sad truth because there are bound to be casualties
