MY FINAL REPORT AS A TEAM LEADER FOR THE NEWBIES INITIATIVE PROGRAM

Hello everyone in the hive blockchain. I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the weather wherever you are. Welcome to my blog.

Hurrray! We’ve finally reached the end of the newbies initiative program. The fact that this era has come to an end doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. No, it means something amazing, interesting, impressive… and every other good word you can think of, is about to begin. 27 students were grouped into three teams and I was privileged to be the team leader of one of the teams. The truth is, not only the newbies gained something from this initiative, team leaders, instructors and even tutors also gained one or two things. The meetings, tasks, and materials refreshed our memories. Now that you’ve come to the end of the newbies initiative program, I want you all to keep learning. Learning never ends. Explore; explore the blockchain. Search every nook and cranny for there are hidden golden treasures.

On this note, I welcome you all to the final report as the team leader of team 1.

Before I go on, I’ll like to say a very big thank you to the founder of the newbies initiative program @starstrings01 . He’s a busy person. We all are busy. But he still finds time to make sure things go well. I wish you good luck in everything you do. @ksam @vickoly @nkemakonam89 , it’s a great thing to have experienced and kind hearted people by your side. Thanks to you guys.

Okay, let’s get down with it. Here’s a quick rundown of how the program went for my students.

At the beginning of the initiative, I had 11 members. From the onset, 5 of them have been inactive. So technically, I started the program with 6 members. However, one of the inactive members (@phyna) reached out to me saying she had always wanted to be a part of the program. Sadly, her busy schedule prevented her from joining. I wish you goodluck, you can try out the next batch as well.

Six of them started the program on a good note, sadly, two of them dropped out due to their busy schedule. @rosheedkassie is one of my good students who couldn’t complete the task. Good luck, brother. Thanks to @zitalove for participating. Cheers!

FEEDBACK FROM TEAM 1 MEMBERS

Despite all odds, I’m glad you guys made it to the end. I know not everyone achieved their laid down goals. Come on, don’t beat yourselves to it. You did well, really. You completed the task and learnt new things. The newbies were asked to suggest how they think the program can be improved.

The initiative has been helpful in almost all aspects of the hive blockchain, but what I would like to see is educating members about how the hive. block works and how to navigate around.

I recently just heard about the hive. block and when I visited the site, I was confused as to what to do there. So I think the introduction on the hive backend to the course would be of help to the newbies to come.

As days go by, new updates are being released and so is the various dApps on the hive blockchain, I think the initiative can do so much better by giving us the latest update on the various task we tackle, what I mean is that I could see that the task that was given to us was almost the same as the one last year’s newbies did, there was no difference in them. I think the initiative can add a few updates to various tasks in if there are any in other not to confuse newbies as to what they see in the tutorials given and what they see when they access the site or app.

All newbies should be treated equally, no newbie should be given preferential treatment as it weakens the morale of the other newbies who don’t get the same treatment, root for every newbie equally because newbies leaving their comfort zones to do things they haven’t done before is no easy feat.

I would have love to start with enhancing the Discord meetings where the tutorials are done but then I really know it's not the organisers fault but rather the poor network we have here in Nigeria but it will be nice if we try to beat that better maybe by making sure the tutor is in a location that has a strong network before assigning the task to him or her.
Then for the part we could actually do something is about the time, no doubt, unforeseen circumstances may come in but then let's try as much as possible to always clear our schedule ahead of the time.. let's be the change we preach.
Then particularly for Task 6 talking about Blockchain Games, I really think the tutorial materials are very deficient. It will really be nice if we could get atleast a Tutorial video on how these games are set up and played for a start or even getting the links of the game's introduction post on Hive....
It will really help a lot in understanding these aspect of Hive.
There are tens of games if I'm correct and for the tutorial, we only got the guide to Rising Star Game... I think we can do better with the next batch.
I would be lying if I say the curation didn't talk below my expectation, hehehe but then I had in mind to get the knowledge and that's why I am not complaining about that.
It will be nice if it's enhanced though but I always love the stress on that anyway, Curation is not guaranteed so you make up your mind before joining in but then, doing the programme isn't really easy so it will be nice if enhanced to serve as a source of motivation.

THERE'S ALWAYS ROOM
FOR IMPROVEMENT
I think the meetings are very important, I only got to physically attend two of them because of my work schedule, however, if meetings could be recorded, It will help those who missed them physically have a better idea about the task from the question and answer sections. I discovered that I performed better at the meetings I attended than I did at the meetings I missed. I had to check out exactly what others did at a point to fully understand things I needed to do in completing my tasks.

I also think The art of writing should be taught as a topic on its own in the newbies initiative program, to enable newbies who do not know how to write quality content to improve on their writing skills, this might require building a standard template to follow for newbies, not because that template is ultimate, but because following it will help them improve in different ways.
