I have always never been a fan of medicine. This is one reason why I never saw myself as medical personnel, even when I know I love to take care of people. I knew I hated the sound of drugs and medications, but going into the medical field requires that I prescribe drugs at some point to my patients, and that was going to be a struggle for me because I believe the human body can and should be able to do without drugs to a degree.
Part of the reasons I also hate drugs is for the fact that the human body grows resistance and tolerance over time. And this is why it is always important that drug abuse be taught in schools. Our body mostly grows resistance when we abuse our drugs. I have seen different cases where people do self-medication, and not just that—they also take more drugs than they should because they want the illness to go away as soon as possible. This is something that we see every day, and that’s why I’m worried whenever I meet people that are not scared of taking drugs.
Those kind of people are the ones that are easily prone to abusing their drugs and growing resistance too—except for some special cases of people that aren’t just receptive to medications. Even as this resistance is a problem, it is also a good thing too, as it will force those people to seek professional help. Every drug has its mechanism of action, and they follow a pattern too. If ignored, we are only teaching our bodies to learn resistance and dependence.
Like I said, I’m not a fan of taking medications except when I’m seriously down. This is both a good thing and a bad thing, but for me, it’s more of a good thing because my body is hardly ever resistant to drugs. The only reason my body will be resistant to a drug will be when I failed to follow the instructions on how to take it. And also, since I only resort to medications when my body is really out of control, that could be the other reason why my body could be resistant to a medication at first. But in the end, it responds eventually.

Personally, I love this evolution. I don’t want people to depend so much on drugs. I want them to be more conscious of it. I want them to resort to it as the last thing, not the first. Every drug has its side effects once it’s taken for a long time or abused. So it’s better that we don’t find the next shop to get a drug immediately we feel uncomfortable. Most times, resting, eating good food, taking fruits, and exercise could be all we need to feel better again—or even taking water.
We live in a world where drugs are sold out as business more than for treatment. They make these drugs to make profit, and that’s why most times, we don’t get the best. We will mostly have a reason to go back to get more or a different kind of drugs because the first one wasn’t efficient. The only way I see that we can curb this problem is to avoid drug abuse and self-medication. If you don’t feel okay, go and see your doctor or take some time to stop doing anything that is making you feel sick. Interestingly, we always know when our body doesn’t feel good, but we choose to ignore it because we know we can just get a drug to make us feel better afterwards.
Remember, you don’t have to wait until you break down to fix a problem. If you do, it will cost you way more than you think. So for me, the dark side of this evolution is that humans will become more dependent on the things that even hurt them the most. Since one drug is no longer effective, they seek for something stronger, and that’s how it will remain until they either learn how to survive without the drugs or die from it. Yes, these drugs are helpful, but I believe the human body can survive a lot of things without some of these medications we feed it.
