Sometimes it feel like I don’t care about myself at all because going for health checkups has been one thing that I have always dreaded. In my mind, I keep running away from it, promising myself that I will only do it when the need arises which I’m still hoping it doesn’t happen. The truth is, I dread falling sick or having any discomfort at all because I hate medications but instead of that to push me to take my checkups seriously, it didn’t. I have some worries because I lack trust for those medical personnels out there.
I have heard too many stories that are probably not completely true but then, I have chosen to believe them because after all I have never liked the idea of medical checkups. And as someone who God has blessed with a good health or a strong mind, none of my sicknesses has ever been very serious that I have to go to the hospital. Actually, I continued to pray to God to always take sickness far from me because he knows how much I hate medications.
Fortunately for me, God has been answering my prayers and because of that, I have never had any reason to want to go for health checkups until I’m faced with questions like this. Because, I know that medical checkups doesn’t require one to be sick first and I know it’s benefits too. Well, luckily for me, I’m studying in that line so most times when I have some discomfort I know some possible reasons why such is happening to me and I try to do the needful and before I try two or one possible solutions, I feel better and that is because most times it not that serious.
Growing up, I have people who always go to the hospital that I had to visit and the more I went there, the more I prayed never to go there for anything personal but then, I know that’s not how things work especially with humans. I’m not sure when I will be going for my first ever body check up but I really hope I do so not because I’m sick. Another fear I have of the incompetence of some medical personnels is, I sometimes feel like even if you don’t have anything wrong with you, after the checkup they will always want to tell you that something is wrong with you.
I mean, most times, people only think of checkups when something is not right with them, especially here in my country. So, by default, most of these health professionals when they carry out checkups for you is as if they do so with the aim of finding at least one thing that is wrong with you even though there is nothing wrong with you. It’s like they just want you to spend money because sometimes, even though something is wrong with you, they can easily tell you to maybe get some rest or drink more water and eat better food but they will always want to recommend a drug for you.
Well, the truth is, in as much as there might be truth in some of these my fears, that is what it is, fear. I’m just scared of the outcome of going for medical checkups but I’m definitely going to do so soon. I’m not sure how long it will take from today, but I know it is going to beneficial for me and it is something I need to do. So I will put in the effort to make it happen. And besides that, my school requires me to do my health clearance so there is no running away anymore.
This is my response to the Hivelearners topic for E1 on ”HEALTH CHECK”.

The feeling that going for medical checkup is only when you sick is not a good one at all. However I cannot say for sure concerning whenever you go to the hospital for check up one thing or the other will be diagnosed out of it. It depend on particular Hospital and if such happened you are free to attend another hospital for a diagnosis that is confirmation of diagnosis, so we should not run away from medical checkup.
Yeah. I think I just grew up with the wrong ideas as regards this and for the fact that I have never had any health complications, I just didn’t take it seriously.
Thanks to my line of study I don’t have any excuse anymore.
Yeah a great thanks to that line because it is wrong to ignore something like this.

We really don't need to be sick before checking up and this negligence has caused people their lives so we have something to be grateful about. I believe a lot of deaths could have been prevented if check ups were taken seriously by people but it is what it is.
While we do everything possible to stay healthy, it's important we make going for checks an habit.
Yeah? Prior to now, I didn’t take my health seriously as long as I can still do other things I’m good to go. I have a very strong mind when it comes to things like this and now that I start seeing the need for it, I dread the fact that they will be needing my blood to run most of these tests and I’m just not ready for it mentally.
And also, I fear what the results might be. What if I have something that is not right with me after the rest? I don’t think I want to know because I know it will affect my mind.
That was my mindset too... What if something is wrong? It's better I don't know than knowing and panicking.
The truth remains that, it's best to know before it's too late..

At least you kept on promising yourself to go. I have thought of going ooo but I didn't make a promise to go.
Live healthy and observe yourself 😁😁
The only reason I want to go for checkups is because of my partner. 🫠
Just to be sure we are compatible with each other.
Same here although I already know my genotype and blood group but I want to know what we are taking into the new phrase (health wise)

I also never liked the idea of checkups but now I see it importance but still reluctant about it, but I do it whenever I am at home because but when I am away I hardly practice it.
At least you’ve done it once. I have never done it before and I think that’s why I’m struggling to just start.

Thank you. 🥰
I understand you very well, fortunately you are young and you enjoy good health, but when you become an older person as in my case, health problems begin to emerge and you look at the need to go to doctors. I am not going, I do not like for the reasons you mention, and more in my country that is customary to make doctors insult you and make you spend exaggerated sums of medicines that you probably don't need. They have turned health into a business.
Sadly that is the truth but then, there are still good doctors out there. And yes, as one grows old, they have need for a Doctor because they naturally start feeling weaker than before.
Thanks for relating with me on this even though you’re older. It’s a pleasure having you stop by. ❤️
Thank you. 🥰
To an extent I feel
Like we're the same.
The need of or for going to the hospital is ok my when I'll sick and fortunately for me I don't fall sick so what's the need of going there?
But in the real sense of it all, a regular check up will do just fine for us
That’s right. I think it’s to start that is the problem.
