PREMEDICAL INTERVENTION

Looking at the hivelearners topic for this week, I’m a bit unsure of what my response should be and that’s because knowing something and being unable to apply that knowledge is almost like not knowing it at all and I think that’s my place in this. I have been taught about first aid and even the basic ways to give first aids but all these was theoretically taught and I’m skeptical of being able to rightly give a first aid treatment to someone if they ever needed one.

Besides giving out first aid, I believe humans are built in a way that they somehow get inspiration to do some things well in a dire situation even though they have never done something like that once in their lives. And for me, I have this believe that if I’m ever in a situation where it seems like I’m the only one that can intervene to give a first aid treatment, even though I got the theoretical ways to go about it, it will still come in handy to help out until professional help comes.

If someone was to have a medical emergency besides me, I won’t say I know exactly what to do but I know deep down that I have an idea of what to do. I have read it, watched documentaries on it and even movies where people are being administered first aid treatments and how it is carried out. But one thing I know is the best thing to do at that point is to call for help. I know I might be scared or unsure of what to do so I’ll seek for help. If it is an emergency that has to do with bleeding, one thing I know I can help with to stop the bleeding is to apply pressure to occlude the blood vessel and if the part that is bleeding is the hand or leg, I can help the person suspend that part of the body above their heart level and this is so the blood can stop following to that part.

For CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), I have tried it playfully on my siblings before. I know this is necessary when the subject is unconscious and if I’m in a position to help, I believe I can help but that’s if and only if I’m the only one that can help. I’d rather leave it to the best person available and someone who has a better experience to help and watch how they do it and learn because in the end, the goal is to save the person. In most cases that I have witnessed, the subject just needs more ventilation.

Recently, in one of my classes I learnt one of the physiology behind a person becoming unconscious (fainting) and I find it really interesting and I’ll share it with you. Basically, if an healthy person just slums on the ground while working or doing something, most times it is the brain trying to protect the person from further harm. Although this is dangerous because it might happen anywhere the brain feels it can’t allow any further stress. When the person lies down on the floor, they are able to breathe better and easier not against gravity and that most times helps them regain consciousness. And that’s why when we give them water or some kind of drinks, they feel better almost immediately.

It might be due to poor intake of oxygen, dehydration and even hunger. The brain is referred to as one of the selfish organs in the body and that’s because it protects its self over other parts. Although it’s doing this for the benefit of every other part at the end of the day because it coordinates every other parts of the body either directly or indirectly. So when a person has a medical emergency beside me, I’ll first try to lie them on the floor, tap them and shout to see if they respond before proceeding to other ways to revive them until help comes.

Thank you for reading through. ❤️

Slumping might be cause by many things but mainly it is as a result of shock to the Brain.

I've learned something new from my family doctor. 🥰 Now I know the reasons behind some people who faint. Me that jokingly asked I've never fainted in my life before, why is that? 😂 I know why now. I take my rest more seriously lol.

Yes. Yes. That's it mama. I'm glad you've learnt something new today. There are other reasons but most people that are healthy, that's one of the major reasons they faint. 😂

I never knew the brain was regarded as selfish but I just learnt from this.
