If they told me that there will come a time when I will be this attached to a phone I would have argued with all the strength that was in me. Growing up, I saw how people were attached to ordinary cellphones that had just snake games, bounce game and the likes. They could go hours playing that game and not get tired. And then when android phones came, it went to another level. Now they could chat with that new friend or family or classmates or colleagues on 2go, facebook and the likes. Things never got better on the aspect of having more time for self. It only got worse.
For the Hivelearners topic, we are asked to share our honest response on whether or not we can go hours without our phones or devices (exempting the time when we go to sleep). This is a practical question and answering it honestly will be in our own favour because thatās the only way we can know if truly we need help or not. So as much as I can, Iāll try to keep it simple and straightforward. So without further ado, letās find out what my response is! Iām not even sure I know how this will end, lol.
If not for one thing, I would have loved to give a brief explanation on how my day goes normally but I wonāt do that. Well, as much as I can, I have tried to always avoid picking up my phone first whenever I wake up in the morning without saying my prayers. I remember when I first started it, I thought it wonāt be possible because I was so drawn to my phone at the time. It was really concerning and I was able to tell myself the truth and that was when I was able to figure out a way to do better.
I got to find out that I was more attached to my phone because I got involved with making money online and also making friends online too. I donāt have a laptop or any other device except my phone and I canāt help it most times. Most of my friends already knows how attached I am to my phone and they complain about it but then, there is nothing I can really do about it except someone promises to sponsor all my expenses for a month or something, lol. Using my phone is both a way of making a living for myself and also a way of having fun too and spending time with my friends online.
Well, besides the fact that Iām always with my phone, there are just some important times when I canāt be with my phone no matter how tempted I am. And one of them is using my phone during bible study. Interestingly, no one taught me this personally. Even before I became an adult, I always see people advise others to avoid using their phones in worship and that got stuck to me until date. I find it unruly to be with my phone trying to make money or chatting with friends or watching reels when I should be worshipping my creator and learning from his words how to be a better person. I mean, I wonāt dare to do that if I was with the president or someone of high caliber so why then should I be comfortable doing that in Godās presence? Thatās a question I answered personally that changed a lot of things for me.
I can actually go a whole day without my phone but not without a good reason. Like I said, thatās what I use to earn a living so it will be unwise to just leave it because I want to prove a point. But I know that I can definitely go days without my phone if I have a good reason to. But I will definitely feel like something is missing but I know I will cope just fine. The way Iām trying to live my life, is a way that I wonāt have anything holding me back at any point in time. As much as Iām still struggling with this, I try to start with the little things and I believe that if I ever feel my phone is taking too much than it should, Iāll be able to take a break from it.
But as long as itās not causing me any harm or anyone harm, I think Iām good to go. I have some days when I just chose to let my phone rest. Some days I just pick up a book to read or even my Bible and I always feel very proud and happy for myself. And now that I think about it, I think Iād do that more often so I can remind myself that I donāt need anything holding me back. As long as Iām not doing anything productive with my device and Iām attached to it, I will say that my reliance on it is really concerning and needs me to have an introspection about a way out.
This is my response to the topic, thanks for reading through. ā¤ļø

There's still something I do wrong with my phone some days, your post has just reminded me again to work on it. Glad you have your phone under control, not it controlling your daily activities.
And I know what it is...using it phone in the church š

Our phone has become a necessity and not an addiction for many of us because we make money online and it's impossible to put the phone away knowing that you are losing cash.
Thatās just it.
Thanks for your contribution, Daddy H. š„°
This topic is fascinating and interesting for discussion; those with mobile facilities can not live without mobile for even one hour.
Not everyone. Those who their work doesnāt require them using their mobiles can easily go hours without their phones. The concern is more for those who work remotely.

It's alarming to see how most people are so attached to our phones to the point of not letting it rest during worship . Last Sunday , I decided to check something and I looked around and saw good number of people both children and adult using phones and laughing while service was going on oo..lol
It's something we can tell ourselves the truth and work on it...even health wise, it will help us...no matter how important this phones are to us
Thatās right, mama.
Until we tell ourselves the right thing to do, we wonāt listen to others.
Thanks for sharing your experience, mama. š„°
I donāt even use my phone that much because I have a laptop and now I understand why I donāt leave my room.
I think Iām attached to my laptop because when itās down I jump to my phone. š«š«š«
The phone is one thing we canāt do away with especially when itās one of the source of our living.
Omo. We have to work and we do that with our phones and devices so itās hard to drop them but itās possible.
I stay on my phone all day but I'm not addicted to it. If I have something important to do, I put it down and do it. I read with my phone but when it gets too much I use my glasses if my eyes start paining.
Thatās good. Keep it up.
Knowing when to stop is very important.
Yeah. I agree with you hundred percent. Bible study and prayer time should be far away from our phones. Except for the fact that we read our Bibles with our phones sometimes when there is no light.

Thatās just it, mama.
