Tackling Infertility

Surrogacy can simply be explained as a procedure through which a woman carries a pregnancy for another woman. There are various forms of it and various reasons for it. A lot of ethical dilemma still surrounds it even today.

I have heard a few reasons why people follow through with that process and one that cannot be overlooked is infertility.

Infertility is a serious condition that affects all aspects of a couples life and only those involved really know where the shoe is pinching.

Some couples have no interest in having children or postpone child bearing till a certain time. For these ones, there's no rush.
While some couple want kids from the word go and any delay may begin to affect them psychologically especially when the delay takes more than usual.

Medicine has seen tremendous achievements over the past few years. A lot of milestones have been achieved and many more are on the way.
Infertility has been almost entirely demystified and the major hindrance for any couple who leave the doors open is financial constraints. This is because a lot of these procedures do not come cheap, they are financially demanding.

There are other reasons for surrogacy like same sex couples, women who just don't want to go through the stress of pregnancy, etc.

There are various forms of surrogate mothers too, some just want to help the infertile couple to carry a child without demanding remuneration while some do it as a business to generate finances.

These various instances is what makes surrogacy to seem ethically disturbing.
But then, that is the way of humans.
The gun used by the soldier and policemen to protect is also used by terrorists and serial killers.
Do we ban guns then?

I cannot think of an institution, good or service that does not serve both for good and bad, not even the hospital.

Bearing this in mind, I cannot be against surrogacy because I know of it's role in helping reduce the various complications of infertility.

Should this method of childbearing be abandoned in favour of traditional methods?

For some people, the option of the traditional method is preferred but they are unfortunate to be unable to use it for various reasons which includes reproductive health or health limitations.
If such a couple are not also limited financially and decide to opt for surrogacy, I believe it's a positive use and would bring happiness to them in the end.

A lot of people, especially women get desperate after a few years being childless and then begin to take a lot of measures to get pregnant. Some of these measures are not only false with no possibility of working, some of them are inherently dangerous.
Some fraudulent ones would also see it as an opportunity to prey on the desperation of these women by scamming them with hopes of pregnancy under various disguises.

Many of these can be prevented by being open minded and approaching the right professionals for help.

If we can donate our organs permanently, why can't we lend our wombs temporarily?

Lol is the comparison about guns being used for protection and to kill too, really! There's always the good and bad use of things.

Renting out a womb to save a couple from being childless does seem like a great deed but there should be no loose ends in dealing with that.

Yeah, you get it.
Carefulness is vital hence only professional advice should be taken in such situations.
