Schools and Social Media

The way the schools curriculum is structured is such that the young child learns a lot about many things so that he has some knowledge of everything.

This is both beneficial and wasteful.
Beneficial in the sense that the student knows something about many things but wasteful because the student stays to learn somethings which they have no interest in not would ever use it in life.

Also some necessary teachings are not incorporated in the school curriculum because these curriculums are not revised as frequently or urgently as is necessary and so don't reflect recent trends.

In an ever changing world, it is only proper that new trends are incorporated into the school system so as to achieve up to date learning.
In the absence of these, students are being fed outdated information while new information is neglected.

Social media is a big big world on its own and should find it's way into the school system.

Students don't need to learn about social media on their own or from friends because by so doing, all they know is the entertainment section which is a huge distraction.

Imagine if the whole picture was painted to them from early on. They would gain 21st century employable skills which would come in handy for them.
Things like content writing, social media management, etc would have been introduced to them from a young age.

This doesn't force them to utilise or further the knowledge but it definitely gives them an edge especially for those who find it interesting and decide to move further into it.

I believe including social media in the school curriculums would be a step in the right direction because the importance will be evident even I'm parents businesses.
A child who is well knowledgeable about social media would go on to create a page for the parents business and boost sales through engagement and various other social media tools.

Some businesses die just because the owner couldn't adapt to a changing world but this should not be so.

One downside to this arrangement is that despite the importance, at that age the students only care about fun. Majority would not implement the knowledge holistically but would focus on the distractions that comes with it.
Not just that, they would now use social media as an excuse for truancy. Then you will hear stuffs like "I am doing my Facebook project or my YouTube research".

The ignorant parent may be mislead into believing that the child who spends hours with the phone or computer is studying when in fact, he is busy wasting his time and parents resources.

Another serious downside would be students becoming very creative and developing new scam techniques as an abuse of the knowledge they gained from social media.
These ones would be versatile and able to evade law enforcement easily.

This would cause a ripple effect that would hurt everyone including the school and teachers.

It is therefore important that care is taken even if we include this in the curriculum. Proper efforts must be made to regulate it and only well knowledgeable teachers should be allowed to take such courses.

You are right not everyone can teach the social media as a topic few should only do this work.
