Back Then...

Change they say is constant. This is something we see very frequently as things keep taking different forms every now and then.
Some changes are welcome while some changes make us missing the former situation of things.

I have heard stories of some years ago when going to school and graduating was a ticket to a comfortable life at least.
This was because at the completion of studies, there's employment opportunities and some even come with accomodation and official cars to help in the discharge of duties.

I didn't experience this, I only heard the tales of old.

These days, even going ahead to do master or PhD is not a guarantee at a better life.
The struggle required to survive these days has become X10 of the previous requirement.

This is something I wish can be brought back.
Imagine going back to a time when life was much easier. Education was indeed "the key" then unlike now.

There are lots of improvements required in our life, there are lots of industries lacking and need to be improved upon. There are jobs that are needed but they are not even provided for those that studied it to work and show their expertise in reviving that aspect of the country.

Just like formal education has suffered so also has informal education and apprenticeship become distateful.
In the past, those who were not keen on going to school would choose a good trade and learn it very well. It could be tailoring, motor spare parts, carpentry, etc. these trades were just as important as the white collar jobs and their use was seen in everyday life.

Young people would go into learning these trades and after a few years, with sufficient mastery and to the satisfaction of their master, they are supported with seed capital to begin their own independent business.

This is not commonplace this time around. It's not a popular experience.

Most of the time when you visit an old artisan, you discover that the young ones are no longer learning the trades. The man/woman is alone doing the work and when you ask why there are no apprentices you are confronted by the harsh truth - the young want quick money. No one wants to toe the old path.

Its telling on our society as the crime rate increases qmd these two changes I mentioned have contributed in one or the other.

At least once every two weeks, I receive a scam call from a someone trying to reap where he did not sow. And there are lots of meaningful trades that they could channel all that time and resources and become responsible in no distant time.

I wish we would have people becoming hardworking again and also having jobs ready for those willing and able.
It is not a good sight seeing someone go many years through school only to be forced into one strange job or the other just to make ends meet.
