The Punishment After the Punishment

I can't really recall exactly where I was maybe in a meeting or I overheard some people discussing who they don't want to hire because of that person's name.

One of them was discussing about the man who came for an interview,but they had already done a background check on that man and pulled out some of his hold post which happend to be an ugly one according to him. He said something cruel about the role he was applying for back then, he also made different remarks about different things and what he said got some attention, many shared it. And while some told him to take down the post for his future z he attacked those ones too. Others were backing up what he posted, I guess that was what made his head swell not to delete. I didn't listen to the rest of the conversation, but the little I heard that day, I still recall.

And that little conversation made me to think about a lot of things on how we easily change other people minds and what we are telling others to become just because someone shares their opinion on something.

We all accept that police usually do their work by investigating. The court of law also do thiers by making sure they establish punishment and guilt. The professional bodies and employers and do theirs by making sure they contribute their own responsibilities. All these processes might not be something perfect, but at least, the have rules they work with, evidence and maybe someone also needs to answer for the decision as it's expected.

And when it comes to the rules online, that one can definitely change before we close and open our eyes. Because when a particular individual make a post as I'm typing this, before afternoon, someone somewhere might have added a detail to it, and before night, netizens are already mobilising that the person lose everything. Even when the person is guilty, that doesn't make all the punishment the internet can come up with to be fair.

Personally, and with what I've seen and heard just like the one I said above, I have so much become uncomfortable with this idea behind continuation of punishment indefinitely even after all the legal prices have been paid for. Because permanent humiliation and accountability are far from eachother, they are not the same thing. A person can be held responsible and the right decision can be made without a random person taking action or making the decision that the person never works again or be giving a new chance to become better then their worst act.

Well, I'm a strong believer that we as people need to stop and we have the right to stop supporting someone whose actions do not go with our value. It's something I have done. But what I will never do is to spoil that person's image by joining others to demand that such person should be punished. I don't think I can measure that. They are two different things.

Nowadays, I have come about different scandals now that those spread easily, and before I say anything, I always read twice from sources to be sure of anything. Not because I don't care about those wrongdoings, because over time, I have gotten to realise how easy it can be for a person to participate in a punishment without ever realising where it should stop.
