The Million Naira Lesson I Did Not Expect

They usually say no risk, no reward well in the previous year that just ended a day ago, I took a big risk In trusting an investment platform and hoping for a reward even though I did not put caution into it. I invested my hard earned money of over a million naira into CBEX. I had done that already before I told my people which they said I should not have done, but looking at my phone app, I was seeing profits, which made my mind settled for a bit even though my head was saying otherwise.

In my country, everyone is always finding a means to survive, which makes us go after the next opportunity very fast because the inflation is skyrocketing, and the economy just looks somehow, but when we see anything that looks hopeful and promising with some relief, it strengthen our backbone and gives us oxygen in a way. Before I invested that money, I was thinking about the positive outcome not the other way around.

Just a few days after I invested the money, I was seeing some few profits in my wallet, but just some days before I could withdraw, people were already complaining that they could not withdraw. And just like that, the app crashed, and my wallet was reading a zero balance. I refreshed the app over again, but it was still the same thing. I sat on my bed hoping that it was a dream, but it was not. I was a bit angry at myself as I also felt empty and stupid.

At that very moment, I was really hurt because I trusted the platform, and at the same time, I questioned the decision I made because I could have invested the money in another thing, but at that very moment, I understood why they usually say that _ experiece is the best teacher_ because I can never make such a mistake again, and that has taught me to always be patient and do more research before investing in anything because doing things blindly can be very dangerous.

And also, one of the Bible passages that feels so personal to me now is in the book of Proverbs, which says that wisdom is the principal thing and that in all our doing, we should get understanding. Looking at what I said, we learn through our mistakes, which gives us more wisdom to do things.

My experience with CBEX taught me to always ask a lot of questions, be patient, and that not all quick money investments come with profit. Though I did not win financially, I gained experience because if the opportunity comes my way again, I will know how to decline it.

However, in this hard economy like ours over here, my experience from 2025 has taught me compassion because everyone is trying to survive, and mistakes are very easy to make this time. I am sharing my experience so that others too can learn to ask questions, do a deep dive, and not invest their sweat in anything that will take their money away. Loss can be painful, but someone who sees this can learn from it because the decision we make can either be good or bad depending on our choice.
