The Fine Line Between Protection and Preparation

Every parent wants what is best for their child which includes not allowing their child to pass through some difficulties they faced in their childhood, the reason every parent prays for their child to be better than they are. Although everyone has it differently, as some are born with silver spoons, have the warmth and care of both parents and never have to face some of the hurdles the common man's child faces.

I wouldn't want my child to face some difficulties I had to face while growing up, because these difficulties also exposed me to some unpleasant experiences though I would say those experience made me tough, as in being able to withstand tough conditions, but one thing I love asking myself is that is it a must for someone to come to this world and suffer all in the name of getting stronger, tougher and having a grass to grace story to tell, I believe people who didn't have to suffer same difficulties I did as a child are also humans, yea, life exposes us to some tough times but if it is within my capacity to waive those hurdles for my child like attending the best school in town for Instance, rather than attend a public or those incomplete private school in the name of, "I want my child to be tough," for me that's rubbish, I've actually experienced someone do same, sending his child to the same public school he attended to face same difficult situations he did with the excuse that it moulded him to be who he is today, because he thinks giving his child the luxury of a better education in a better environment would make him weak or soft as he puts it.

I felt angry, even though it wasn't my child because I feel such reasoning is shallow, who says human can be devoid of challenges, no matter where you put your child, even in a better school there would still be challenges to face like studying to pass, now this is where you shouldn't come in as a parent, the best you could do is provide him or her good tutors and reading materials, the rest should be left for your child to handle even if you have the power to waive it off, because you know the consequences of helping that child in such a case would have negative impact in the future.

The school setting is just an example that can be likened to every area of life if you can provide your child luxury, please go ahead but always know where to draw the line, as you wouldn't always be there for them at all times if you own a company for instance and can afford to give them a luxurious lifestyle, also introduce them to how the business that affords this lifestyle is run, or better still skills they could acquire to still maintain that lifestyle as they grow older, If not, sadly, when you are no more then life would become difficult tor them because they've never had to do anything themselves.

The reason there are depleted mansions, cars, and once top business names faded into oblivion, because the next generation were over-pampered with wealth, rather than carrying them along on how to run it. That being said, if you can, give your child the lifestyle you were not opportune to have, please do so, it is even expected of you as a parent, but know when it isn't your decision to choose to waive off certain challenges, let them face it, you can only advise or give guidance as a parent in such situations.

Well said, sis
A children deserve the best and should be given the best. Parents who leave their children to face life's challenges by themselves do not tell a good story in the end.

That's right, and remember, know when to draw the line.

I agree with you
You shouldn't because of you've gone through some part of life that was crazy now decided to eliminate the obstacle in front of your children. Allow them face it all and deal with it themselves.
