Sweet Deception: The Dangers of Excess Sugar

It was a thing of joy for us members of the church when our pastor made the announcement on acquiring different medical facilities and personnel that will encourage members to easily come for free basic medical checkups, considering that it costs a bit to get it done in hospitals around us. Which has made some people, especially older adults, ignore their health over time. Blood sugar level and blood pressure are some of the available tests.

Now this is what I refer to as faith and work, as it's common to have religious leaders mislead their followers, that all they need is prayer and not work, even when it comes to their health. Don't get me wrong, I believe in miracles too, but our bible also teaches us not to tempt God. The dangers of sugar for instance is one silent killer that people still don't take caution to control until it does more harm than can be reversed.

It is common to see people preach against the use of alcohol, hard drugs, smoking, etc., but what about sugar? I believe that with all the happenings in recent times, seeing young people come up with diseases and illnesses like diabetes and kidney damage, which we thought were common to the elderly, should be an eye-opener to everyone, that our health, food, and lifestyle should be paid attention to.

So, yes, the same attention paid to alcohol and the rest should be paid to sugar consumption as well, people should be warned and enlightened about the dangers of over consuming and how to regulate their sugar intake, some take too much sugar in foods, snacks, drinks, etc as a form of comfort, not knowing their slowly killing themselves, maybe if the dangers are shown to them through adverts, seminers, etc, some people, because i know all will take their health serious and caustion themselves.

Some of the dangers includes attcack to the immune system, the reason why some people have minor infection and their body is incapable of fighting it off as it should. I've had a distant family member undergo two amputation surgeries because of excess sugar intake during her prime years. She was diagnosed with diabetes, and it changed her life completely. She had to adjust her diet, routines, everything. No one wants that kind of life as they get older, as becoming old is already a burden of its own, so why not make your older years thank your younger self, rather than live the rest of your life in regret and 'how you wish you had done better'

And it's not even just about cutting out sugar completely. It's about being mindful of what we consume, because some food might not appear as the physical sugar but contain more spoons that we can ever imagine, we are gulping at a time. Read labels and know what's in your food, for a start 🌱. Some people are even going sugar-free or trying keto diet, whatever works for you, it's better to be aware and do right now, before it's too late.

Yes, the same measure taken for alcohol should be same for sugar. Sadly, they don’t take excessive consumption of sugar seriously with the way they do for alcohol and it's also has its own disadvantages.

It just feels so good when spiritual leaders also include health matters in their weekly teachings cos most of their followers believe in their words even more than Christ that they pray in his name.
