When people talk about the good old days, it's always about the things they miss that are probably not in existence anymore, which might be a way of life or anything at all. Although life has improved significantly in all sectors, we still can't deny the fact that there are some things we wish were still in existence.

For me, I think to a large extent is the feeling of security. When was the last time you felt at ease, sleeping with your eyes closed, forgetting to lock your doors, or walking safely at night or even traveling in daylight, especially on road trips, without having your heart in your hands? Sadly, that is the state of how bad security in my country has degenerated over time.

It might be shocking to the current generation to know that there was a time we didn't have those fears, though life wasn't perfect, there was still some amount of peace we still had. As a millennial, I experienced not having the need to lock your doors when going out, and when you come back, all your property would still be in place, but today, even with heavy burglaries on our doors and windows, these burglars still find a way to keep us restless, they burgle people's business places tht have millions in investment in them, rendering people sad and hopeless, our homes are not left out.

Recently, a friend's apartment was burgled; according to her, these thieves came in the middle of the night and burned sleeping herbs at their windows without their knowledge, which knocked them out, all their devices, which were left to charge overnight, were all stolen.

What about travelling? In those days, people who could not afford a flight ticket still had the option of travelling by road; we thought bad roads were our only worry then, but today, bandits have made it even worse. They kidnap these average passengers and force their families to provide heavy ransoms, or they suffer a brutal death in the forest; how sad that this has been the current trending news online.

Families are now forced to stay put and not visit each other if they can't afford flight tickets to visit their families or go on business trips. So if there is one thing I could bring back, it would be a better security system for the people of my country. We don't have to live in fear of the next crime, or being victims of these men of the underworld perpetuating these crimes.

Perhaps the good old days were not necessarily better in every way, but at least there was a sense of peace and security that made life feel a little easier. Though we cannot turn back the hands of time, can we at least hope and work towards creating a country where people can sleep peacefully, travel without fear, and protect what they have worked so hard to build? I hope that someday, when the younger generation looks back at our time, they will not have to say, “Things were better back then,” but rather, “Things got better with time.”
