Keeping Boredom at Bay

Happy New Week, guys, I hope you had a lovely weekend. It's a new week, and a chance to try again and get things right, or at least just try, I hope we all make the most of our week.

An Idle Mind
How do you treat your boredom? What do you do when you have nothing to do and nothing to think about. Being bored can be one of the worst things to happen to a person, especially if they're usually active. How do you cope with it? How well does your coping mechanism work?

Boredom, I believe, is something we get to feel at one point in our lives. Some people live really active lives during their young age, and when they get older, and they no longer have the strength to work as much as they would love to, they begin to feel bored because they cannot relate to this new lifestyle.

Some other people live their lives and know how to amuse themselves even when in environments that are considered boring. I believe this should be our lifestyle, but I know sometimes we can't help but feel bored especially when you're alone without any loved one, it's only natural to feel that way, but developing a coping mechanism that is both uplifting and healthy is a skill, some people might not agree with me, but I actually think it is a skill that everyone should have because it surely will come in handy.

I've seen what boredom is, especially this period of my life where I stay alone, I wake up in the morning, get prepared and leave for work, by the time I return back, I don't expect to meet anyone at home or expect someone to return and join me later, it's just me till the next day. The time when the boredom if not handled well can get to you is during the weekend when you don't have any routine place to go, and for someone like me, going out isn't exactly my strong forte, I usually do not just go out by myself often.

So one of the methods I've deviced to keep myself from boredom is reading books, yeah you heard me right, it could be a novel, a motivational book, or any inspirational book I can lay my hands on. I usually read both soft copies and hard copies, but if you ask me which I prefer, I'll say hard copies, want to know why? Well soft copies are great but there are restrictions sometimes, you have to have a well-charged device to enjoy your book, but with a hard copy, you can read anytime.

Although they both have their pro's and cons, with the hard copy if it's night time time and there's no power, there's not so much you can read. But I just love the feel of the leaves of the book on my fingers and smell of the papers just soothes me.

Another mechanism that has kept me during my boring and lonely days are watching movies. For now I do not have a TV set, so basically what I use to watch is either my phone or my laptop, I know; it's not so much of a screen, but I make do of it.

Just yesterday when I got back from church I decided to see a movie I had downloaded some days ago, it was titled 'Unsung Heroes', I watch it and I cried during some scenes because it was so emotional, and by the time I was done I felt relaxed and good to an extent.

Walking around my neighborhood is another thing I do to keep the boredom away, people watching while walking and smiling where and when necessary. Not only does it keep boredom away, it also helps me stretch and burn some calories 😊. It also helps clear my mind, especially when I have a big decision to make, taking walks gives me the clarity to make those decisions.

So yeah these are some of my coping mechanisms in handling boredom. Do you get bored (is this question even correct are there people that don't ever get bored?) How do you cope with boredom, I would like to hear your ideas in the comment section.

Thanks for reading, I hope it was a good one
