When you hear the phrase “healthy environment,” what comes to mind? Is it a place filled with clean air and green spaces, or is it a home, school, or workspace where peace, safety, and support thrive? A truly healthy environment goes beyond just the physical; it includes emotional, social, and mental aspects too. But what makes an environment healthy, and how can you tell if yours measures up? In this blog, we’ll explore the key components of a healthy environment. It's time to ask the tough questions about the spaces we live and work in.
Hello everyone, Welcome to my blog and as it was written above, we will be discussing what makes a healthy environment.
I've been fortunate to travel to different states in my country and live in different kinds of environments. Some states pose good environments where you can live a peaceful life and raise well-mannered children, while some states house environments that sometimes look ungodly.
You might ask this question: What makes an environment healthy?
Whether it’s the air you breathe, the relationships you nurture, or the systems that support your daily life, every element plays a role in shaping your environment. For an environment to be considered healthy, there should be balance, cleanliness, order, safety, emotional well-being, and mutual respect. Unfortunately, not many states possess this quality; some state do but it is mostly in the capital and in the Government Residential Area. I have stayed in an area that possesses all the qualities of a good environment and that's in Abuja.
Well, not all places in Abuja have this quality but 80% of the places do. Here are some questions to ask yourself to know if you are staying in a healthy environment.
• Do you feel safe and valued where you live or work?
• Are your physical surroundings clean, organized, and uplifting?
• Is your mental health supported by the people and culture around you?
If the answer to any of these questions is no, then it might be time to make some changes. There is a state I live in in which, if I'm to answer all these questions, the answer would be No and that state is Lagos State. Now don't get me wrong, the reason why my answers are no is because of the particular area I'm staying in Lagos, but there are places in Lagos where all answers to the above question would be yes but such areas are very expensive. So if you want to live in a healthy place, you need to have enough money. It's sad that other parts of Lagos have been abandoned while only the rich areas are being taken care of. Anyways, we humans are sometimes the cause of our misfortune.
In conclusion, creating and maintaining a healthy environment is not a one-time effort, it’s a continuous process of reflection, adjustment, and growth. We don't need to live in expensive places before we can create an utopia of our own with our hands. If we decide to make our environment healthy as one, then it is possible.

Getting a healthy environment in Lagos requires so much money. Already the cost of living is high there not to talk about the big man areas.
