We were all playing outside the house and having a nice time when suddenly a loud noise came from inside the house from a child who left the group to go get some water to drink. everyone panicked because we wanted to know which room the noise actually came from before we found out it was from one of my neighbors room where one of her children had injured himself so badly. When we finally accessed the room, unfortunately all of us were so confused because first we don't have the slightest idea of what to do in such situation and the injury was not something we would want to go close to. well you won't blame us because we were just teenagers and still young to handle situations the little lies we told ourselves.
Since the boy's mom was not around, one of us rushed out to call another parent and that was how he was rushed to the nearest chemist just close to our formal house. Prior to that time, I have heard of the word first aid because right from primary school, we've been taught to the point where we sang it as a song but none of us could do anything when in such a situation. I don't want to believe now that for our age then it was impossible to administer first aid then because I have seen kids who weren't up to our age do so I understood that it's another to know a thing and also know how to execute it.
How time flies, now I know the basic first aid treatment to administer to a patient especially if the case is not an emergency and even if it is, I have a little knowledge too if it's a case of emergency and would be able to at least help before they get to the hospital, all thanks to my pharmacist friend and Aproko doctor. At least I know that to perform CPR which stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which means when someone breathing or heartbeat stopped in a cardiac arrest, chocking or drowning the first step to do is to check for their responsiveness by tapping to know if they can actually respond and if none, proceed to call for help. I would have said dial 911 but not in my country so proceed to do the necessary things to save a life. Chest compression is the right thing to do at this point by locking my elbows, shoulders directly above hands on the breastbone which is the center of the chest putting pressure. The person is supposed to be in a certain position because not all positions will work at these point.
While trying to do these, make sure that either the rescue team are on their way or someone has gone to get a cab meanwhile till then do not stop trying to save a life. Although I do know I would panic first but not for long because I'm sure I will offer a helping too
First aid should be thought to every age because emergency situations don't respect age when they happen so we must live prepared
